Hey, Shanie, here's data on the Tilghman-Webster police. The crime level goes up and down some, but has been at 3-4 times the US Average under their "leadership"! Salisbury is the crime capital of the Shore.

I think this has been discussed on this site before but these numbers are somewhat misleading.
While, crime is bad and we should all be concerned, if you take the population of SBY and then come up with the ratio of number of crimes against the population, you will get a very high number. If you then factor out the number of crimes commited by people from outside of the Salisbury annexed area, you will get numbers much closer to the national average.
the fact of the mater is that people from outside areas come to SBY to commit crimes because that is where the drug traffic is, the bars, and other things that tend to attact crime.
So, again, looking at the pure numbers, without taking into account the fact that the population of Salisbury is small but it is the hub of the eastern shore, makes things actually look out of sku from the national average.
With that said, something needs to be done to lower crime and make sure that others from the outside counties dont have a reason to come in and cause trouble.

Are you for real. If someone attacks you, what difference doe it make if the perp. is from "outside the area" -- and that's a factor everywhere else, too, so your point is BS.
The fact is that this is the drug capital of Delmarva.
The fastest way to put things right would be to merge the City police into the Sheriff's Dept. so that they would have a real leader for a change.
anon 3:34- Figures don't lie, but liars can figure. The numbers posted on Joe's site are a fair representation of Salisbury compared to cities across the country. ALL CITIES HAVE CRIMES COMMITTED BY OUTSIDERS! Your attempt to say otherwise is a joke.
The numbers are somewhat inaccurate. Most of these numbers dont take into account the following populations: College students, migrant workers, beach traffic, etc. If you factor this in, you will see that the crime to population ratios go down and SBY becomes inline with many other cities.
Dont focus on this as a salisbury issue (like the slant the statistician has taken). That is a very naive view.
And the 2 posters, after me, validate my analysis. Salisbury population is low but crime is being imported by many people who do not live in Salisbury. Because of this, Salisbury should be able to get assistance from both the county and the state to help in this problem.
and anon 3:34-, figures can lie. It all depends on how they are presented. A statistician can make their outcome say whatever they want. If you have been around for any period of time, you would probably know that.
Just complaining about Salisbury isnt going to get anything. Just looking at statistics and showing that Salisbury is out of proportion to crime in other cities is not going to do anything. Work with your city, county, a state governments (not just police but other organizations like education, youth groups, etc) will get you somewhere.
solve the problem instead of complaining about it. Look at the figures in multiple ways to determine where your problems are and attack those problems. Looking at these numbers tell you nothing except that there is a high ratio between residents of a somewhat small city, and the crimes that occur in that city.
These numbers are appalling as well as frightening.
I cannot believe a law abiding citizen of the City of Salisbury can be satisfied with the performance of the Chief of SPD.
The 3:34 anonymous comment must come to Salisbury to buy their dope. If I am the victim of a crime in Salisbury ask me if I care where the perpitratory is from. The responsibility of the SPD is too protect citizens from all crime regardles of where the accused is from.
If Chiefy spent more time in Salisbury and less time out of the county maybe things would change for the better.
So the 3:34 commenter comes to Salisbury and is attacked and the attacker is not from Salisbury. Does that make 3:34 any less of a victim?
Oh, wait a minute it just came to me this is the same logic they use to justify high crime numbers in "Baltmore." Isn't that where the city police chief is from?
Our neighborhood association was actually told at our monthly meeting, by our city police representative that we all needed to go to council meetings and express our feelings about needing the police staff stepped up.
I looked at him like he was nuts and told him that I have, his reply was, "yes I know", the rest of you need to do the same thing.
Well I think it's about time if these policemen really feel that way that they should grow some hair on their asses and get together and be heard on PAC-14 like the rest of us.
I supported your raises. If you can't speak for yourselves, why should I even care if you ever get the rest of your raise? If those officers are afraid of retaliation or a reprimand for practicing the right to free speech, then there is just no way that they can do what they are sworn to do, "Protect and Serve."
If they are scared to get up and tell the truth before the mayor and city council, they must be scared to death of all the drug dealers packing firearms here in Salisbury.

This officer also enjoy's ripping me in front of our group because I post here. LoL most of us read here even if everyone doesn't post. F'um, he needs to brush up on the constitution, you know, the part about freedom of speech and tell the mayor she's WRONG~!
The murders in our town don't seem to have been done by outsiders. These are our homegrown thugs. Many in our community have no idea that you work for what you want. They work for nothing. They either want it given to them by some governmental agency or they take it through some illegal means like robbery, shoplifting, selling illegal (and untaxed) drugs. Our school system spends hundreds of thousands trying to educate at risk kids, to the point that kids who behave and come to school to learn are just about ignored. Somehow these at risk kids learn nothing about getting a job, paying taxes, obeying laws and having only the number of children they can support. Welfare has got to be reformed so people are not rewarded for having more kids than the rest of us can take care of. These unwanted, uneducated, unmotivated kids are literally killing us.

Where do you keep your head, in the sand? You go out of the city limits 6 to 10 times just driving down RT13. So the guy walking from across the street to commit the crime, how many people do you actually think come from out of this immediate area, not many. Challenge SPD to produce the data of arrested people, most will be from the city limits or just a few streets out.
Would you speak out at your job if you know you wil be transfered, written up for little reasons others are not, have vacation days taken away from you, denied time off, denied transfers, look over for promotions, that is what happens at SPD, That is why employees can't speak out. They need collective bargaining, so a representative can speak out for them.
You are right the Chief is from out of the area and still lives out of the area, so I guess he is comming to Salisbury to commit his crime of pretending to care.
You really can't ask older people to go on PAC-14, show their face
and complain about the crime in their neighborhoods. They fear becoming targets of the criminals.
Sounds like a police department is being held hostage like many city employees if they have their freedom of speech revoked or just afraid to speak up due to retaliation. A potential lawsuit.
The officer shouldn't have told the older folks they needed to do that, they are afraid as it is. They are expected to stand up and speak up for a group of people that sacrifices their liberty due to the expected retaliation of an employer?
The corporation I work for allows us to do two anonymous surveys a year as our evaluation of the corporation, it is the first place I've ever worked that allows that. Works well, says that they care what we think.
There are questions and comments on these surveys. No hand witting required, fill in the box that reflects your opinion. They are all filled out, put in envelopes dropped in a box and shipped off to an independent company for processing. Maybe the city can adopt the concept...Oop's I just woke up!
6:15 p.m., your logic does not work because the comparison to national figures would then have to say, "Well, the nation's crime isn't as high as it says because you'd have to factor in people coming into the U.S. and committing crimes."
Further, the "fluctuating" population of Salisbury is not factored into the census data that achieves Salisbury's population, even though some of the crime does take place against these "temporary" people.
It doesn't matter whether the crime is committed by outside criminals or against "temporary" people. Those factors only make it increasingly unsafe for permanent residents.
Try to telling all these permanent resident women who have been attacked in their own homes that crime "isn't that bad."
Tim Chaney, you know what regime the police live under, but I agree it's hard for people to speak up to the mayor and city council. Mayor wants everyone to believe things are fine. In fact, 3:34's explanation sounds just like Barrie Speak. The city council...pffft, there are only TWO on there who give a damn!
Elections are coming people! Do the right thing!
The census also only shows residents and doesn't count the other 40,000 or more people that come into the city daily.
