The Fruitland Police Department Traffic Unit uses both marked and unmarked vehicles, unconventional vehicles, and stationary stop teams to accomplish its enforcement tasks. Speed measuring devices include moving, stationary, and hand-held radar units, laser units, and speedometer pacing. The Police Department participates in several traffic-related, grant-funded enforcement activities throughout the year. Today, the unit also conducted a bucket truck speed enforcement operation that was very successful with 4 citations and 52 written warnings.
Traffic collisions affect our community on several levels, but most seriously through property damage, physical injury, and death. A major goal of the Fruitland Police Department is to reduce the number of traffic collisions and to promote safe driving conditions. The unit attempts to obtain voluntary compliance of all traffic laws through our traffic enforcement efforts.

Is he certified to operate that equipment? I bet there insurance company would say not.
If it'll slow some of those cars down I'm all for it.
I am so relieved to hear about our Police enforcing statutes. I think it is really cool how they hide behind trees, in trees, and around the corner of buildings, and then, at the last minute, jump out and catch the bad guys. I love it. Just when the bad guys think no one is looking, "gothcha"! I think it will be great when they have high tech listening devices, so they can hear people's conversations from great distances, record them, and then use them against the criminals. It will be even better when they have machines which can listen to our thoughts. I hope they make a machine which can determine if we are "thinking" about breaking a statute. Then, we can really get serious about crime prevention. I say, lock them up BEFORE they commit crimes. Wouldn't it be great if they could look at the fetus' DNA to determine, which people are more likely to become criminals in the future and then . . .
Wow again there is someone with no knowledge about what they are talking about. Were you there to see him operate the equiptment. Most likely you were not. How do you know there wasnt someone there to operate it for him. Why dont you worry about the good that they are doing by making the roads more safe and quit looking for reasons to find the bad in everything.

I think you misquoted the press release. I'm pretty sure the sentence in the last paragraph reads "A major goal of the Fruitland Police Department is to get some more moolah from the citizens through traffic tickets and ensuring that our traffic-related grants don't dry up."
Wow, 4 fines and 52 warnings. Yeah, sounds like they're really doing their job.
Instead of worrying about someone doing 36 mph in a 25 mph, why don't they do something about some real crime? Over zealous cops seem to think they are doing a wonderful job based on the number of citations they issue.

Did you know that the Oklahoma City Bomber was caught on a traffic stop? Some bad people have been caught just on a simple traffic stop...
The FRUITLAND Police??? Didn't I just read about some guy going into people's homes after some fake panhandling scam??? Of course, there isn't any money in fighting THAT type of real crime. Further, they may just get beat up so its best if they just take money from honest citizens....just how many accidents and deaths occurred in Fruitland last year? What is the population of Fruitland??? LOL.....and the police need to HIDE in order to do their job? By the way, I've had one ticket in fifteen years, my son is a firefighter and my brother-in-law is an armed arson investigator. I just think it's ridiculous the extraordinary measures the police use to drum up revenue and then justify it by citing some goal of "protecting the citizens". Protect people from criminals going through neighborhoods harassing homeowners. If Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were alive today, we would already be in the middle of a another revolution.
One reason the Fruitland PD is doing this is because of speeding complaints from the residents. I live on East Main St. in a 25 mph zone and people drive closer to 50 because they think they are out in the country. It's really dangerous and it's better to try to slow some people down with radar than have a kid or pet get hit by a speeder. I'll bet you don't want the speed limit RAISED in YOUR neighborhood, do you?
Would love for someone to come out to campground road between riverside drive and siloam rd where the speed is posted at 30mph. The cars average between 50 and 55mph while racing on or off the ferry. We have 3 wico sherriffs that live between those posted signs. Any suggestions?
First FPD gets beat up for failing to slow traffic down on west main - then when a new approach is attempted they get beat up for trying. One person says they are trying to create revenue (no fine on warnings) and another said they wasted their time writing warnings. Traffic is out of control in that area and something needed to be done.

Do you honestly think that running speed traps is the ONLY thing Fruitland PD does? Of course not! They certainly can't publish an article that states that they are investigating a "bad guy" and give details about their investigation to the public. Be glad that they are visible in the community which helps deter crime, that they ARE setting up speed traps to keep children, pedestrians, pets, etc. safe AND consider the fact that they ARE investigating other crimes in the city but just can't make that information public yet! Just let them do their job and stop worrying about who's operating the bucket truck. Great job FPD!
