Dear Mr. Obama

Dear Mr. Obama,

It is August 30, 2008. My name is Mark Gregg. I am a 50 something conservative white male. I have followed your campaign closely, including the speeches you and others made at the democratic national convention. I am respectfully providing you with seven simple (probably shallow) reasons why I could never vote for you. I believe my opinion is shared by many people. While there may not be quite enough to prevent you from becoming president of this nation, I do think there is an awakening to the fact that you are not a (the) messiah that the media and liberal Hollywood entertainers are trying to portray you.

I hear your mantra of change, change, change. Yet, you picked a long term, liberal, Washington insider (Joe Biden) to be your running mate. This is NOT change It is a move that hypocritically refutes the very thing you supposedly stand for. Your campaign then slammed McCain for picking Sarah Palin, apparently, because she is NOT a Washington insider. She is a maverick who cleaned-up Alaska's quagmire of political scandals. Which way is it, Barack? Is it okay for you to pick a Washington insider under the mantra of "change", but not okay for John McCain to pick a smart, aggressive, reformer?

You have the single most liberal voting record in the senate. This indicates to me and others like me that you may very well be an angry black man seeking to punish our country for sins of a different generation. I am not racist. I have some biases just like you and every other human alive. Unlike the democratic party who claims to be for the minority (but their record heavily refutes this), I will give any person who truly needs help, help. I married a "minority" girl 35 years ago (she is Hispanic) and have seen the evils of prejudice first hand. However, I have also seen my wife and my children and others in her family throw off the veil of self imposed prejudicial bondage and move ahead. They love our country and do not view themsel! ves any different than I view myself as a citizen of this country. Your lovely wife s o disappointed people like me during this campaign w hen she stated it was the first time she had ever been proud of this country. She apparently never noticed the massive aid we give dozens of other countries. She apparently never noticed the sacrifice of literally millions of veterans who helped make this country a free nation and helped liberate other nations from brutal dictators such as Adolf Hitler. She apparently does not remember that she attended ivy league universities with scholarship money that ultimately (at least some of it) was paid for by our taxes. This troubles me more than you know. She is an angry black woman who appears to not like her country very much. I don't want her representing me to the rest of the world.

You claim Christianity but apparently do not realize that the Bible teaches that he who does not work, does not eat. The Bible does not say or even suggest that he who CANNOT work, should not eat. Yet, your liberal policies reward people who are capable of working, but choose to not do so. This bothers me. I know that if you are elected our taxes will spiral upwards. You should heed the words of Winston Churchill: "We contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." If I like anything about you, it is your campaign prom! ise to balance the federal budget. Unfortunately, we have heard this a huge num ber of times from a number of different politicians and we realize that when you energize the very liberal Nancy Pelosi, Robert Byrd, Ted Kennedy, etc, etc, and the many other democrats like them, a balanced budget will never, ever happen on your watch.

During your question and answer session with Rick Warren of Saddleback Church your answer concerning the question of where does life begin, stunned me: "Above your pay grade?" Does this mean when something bad happens as President of this nation that you are going to look at your salary to determine if you can respond? I am sorry, but this was the most serious gaffe I have seen you make. Frankly, it shows me that you are pandering in the most obvious manner. You will choose your words not from your heart, but from an agenda that I believe is still hidden from the American people.

If anything stands out about you it is probably your appeasement mentality. In this era of rampant, radical Islamic extremism and with the latest stunt pulled by the re-energized Russian government, I am not sure appeasement is healthy I again revert to the words of Winston Churchill: "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."

You and your party tacitly believe that a 13 or 14 year old girl must have the parents approval to have the school nurse provide them with a Tylenol when they have a headache at school. Yet, this same girl can become pregnant and the school can skirt her off to a clinic and abort the child in her body without the parents knowing or being notified. This scares the hell out of me. You have two little girls. Would you be upset if this happened to them and you were not informed? Then why do you stand for this? It makes no sense to me.

My seventh and final point (for now) is your supporters. I have watched the Hollywood entertainers that support you, systematically embrace Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and others like him. I see the continuous smut and garbage produced by Hollywood, the very people who promote you the most vigorously. It is not a positive point to me and others like me to see these over-paid, bizarre, poor examples of human existence fawn over you and push you and your liberal agenda as hard as they do. The way that I see it; When the devil is for you, we should question whether or not we should be against you.

In closing, I just want you to know that you scare me. I cannot vote for you. It is not because of your skin color. It is because these items and many, many others like them. Do not claim that my dislike for you is race based. It is because I do not feel you have the best interests of this nation at heart.

Respectfully,

Mark A. Gregg

Palin, smart, and progressive are three words that don't belong in the same state together, ket alone the same sentence.

At this point, even Hugo Chavez looks like a better choice than another 4 years of Bush-esque policies. I'm sick of NeoCons wrapping themselves in this "fiscal conservative" costume and then turning around and spending MY money and YOUR money like its water. Phil Gramm's a sell-out and so is anybody who would listen to a word he says about economic policy. If you make over $250k a year, I don't blame you for voting for McCain. But if you don't, you're a nothing but a lemming.

Small-town American Libertarians like me are going to HAVE to vote for Obama. Not because we LIKE liberal, tax-hungry policies, but because with Obama, at least he's willing to tell me to my face that I'm getting screwed.

Please.

BTW, If we paid as much attention to our local and state elections as we do to the federal ones, we'd all be in better shape right now. (Go Biff!)

Thats exactly why the federal goverment needs to be shrunk and the power put back in the hands of the states. Then we might be close enough to it to control it. But we have not controlled our local goverment very well here. I think if you dont participate and vote you can not get your drivers license or your tax refund. You could still vote for no-one but you have to vote.

McCain is the ultimate Washington insider.
Palin is an idiot, an irresponsible pick
McCain is a regular Hollywood schmoozer

Amen Brother!!

Dear Mr. Gregg,

You sir are an idiot. Was the intent of your letter to inform Mr. Obama that he couldn't count on your vote or was it just used as a vehicle to display your profound ignorance?

Please decide.

Mr Gregg is lost.

He states that “he is not racist”. Then he calls Senator Obama “an angry black man” and his wife “an angry black woman”

Within the “letter” he then states things that are not true: “Most liberal voting record.” Democrats tend to be liberal so what. Or he claims quotes that are not even true: You can look up yourself and see what Mrs. Obama actually said.

Then he claims he “cannot vote for you. It is not because of your skin color.”

Mr. Gregg should actually do some research before he starts making things up

Who is Mark Gregg, and what purpose is posting this letter meant to serve?

He's not changed my opinion on who gets my vote.

He's not changed my opinion of right wing conservatives who don't bother to research their facts before putting them in print.

Is that what he was shooting for?

Gregg, "August" 30?????? Did it take a month for your post to get to us?

Obama is the product of very crooked Chicago politics. I don't trust the dude or the poeple around him.

When come it ultimately comes down to who is going to protect our country based on experience, who is going to be there to do that? I think everyone has some research to do. We have come to a point where we no longer vote in who the best person to do the job, but the one who has the most money and media coverage. Someone please tell me how that is going to help us grow into a stronger nation? We are all at a point where no matter who wins this election, we should all be very concerned where we will be in 4-8 years from now......

This, without question, has to be one of the dumbest anti-Obama pieces out there! If Mr Gregg is a real guy, I'm sure he has been embarassed since August 30 by Sarah Palin, whose interviews with the press have been awful. Seriously, you all have to admit that Katie Couric asked pretty basic questions, and Palin was totally and utterly cluless. Conservatives such as George Will are starting to call for Palin to resign for the good of the country. McCain's choice of Palin and his "suspension" of his campaign last week are signs of a guy who accts on impulse--not exactly reassuring for the American public!

Again still another McCain supporter that cannot think of one paragraph of positives about their candidate, so they instead spread lies, mistruths and half truths about the opposing side.

Well, that and the few things he said about Palin are as far off as Venus! LOL

Instead of promoting promoting your bias, tell us all the great ways your McCain is going to save the country. Maybe, should McCain have health issues, Palin will step in and sell off all the "Air Force 1's" on Ebay!

Wow, we stirred up the liberals with this one.

Anon 12:02 said their were many untruth's, like the "most liberal voting record". He or she then states that what's wrong with that? There's nothing "wrong" with it, but it's not a lie either.

Why are we putting down Gov. Palin about saving Alaskan's money buy getting rid of the govenor's plane? I like when our executives stop buying and using needless luxories.

We should all try to stop calling names and instead only debate the issues. I haven't found any facts in this letter to be untrue. If their are some, let us know where to find the facts. Don't just keep repeating things aren't true.

I personnaly can't vote for Obama for these reasons.
I don't think he is a patriot at all.
I don't trust him.
I don't trust his advisors.
I think he doesn't have enough character to believe in something regardless of party views.
He hasn't done anything positive in any position he's ever held in life.
I too believe his wife is and angry racist, and our spouses have the most control over us.
He doesn't have any experience with the military, whether it's as a member of the armed services, a weekend warrior, leader of a boy scout troop, anything at all.
He hasn't said who he will pick as his cainet. The people who will surround him are just as important as what his views are. A perfect example are the advisors that previously ran Fannie and Freddie. They help to open the lending up and helped get us in this mortgage debacle. Obama also recieved the second most money. This sounds very crooked.
He doesn't put his hand over his heart when saying the pledge.
His own rivals in the prelimenary race told us more about why he wasn't ready to be president than any republican could come up with.
Finally, I can't vote for Obama because he has ties to radical people. I don't trust he will put everyday middle class tax payers first. He had an advisor and mentor for 20 years. To think that one person was your pastor and friend that spoke so much hate, so much nasty unamerican slander and that this had no influence on you? I'm not that stupid. You weren't running for the head of your PTA, you are running for President! Of course this pastor has influence. Of course you will do everything to help this person. Of course you are going to lie about it. Who in their right mind, while trying to run for anything would tell you something bad about them? You are human. You have faults. You make mistakes. You are not the next savior. You are a yes man who is propped up by your party to be the spokeman for the democratic party.

Ok.... Mardela,

1) Palin didn't save any money in selling the jet. They sold it in a private sale for a loss.

2) Palin COST the Alaskian Taxpayers more money because she didn't fire the chef, she transfered the chef to another department, then CHARGED a per diem to the state for eatting at home.

Anonymous said...

Sorry Mardela, but he is not the most liberal. There are 39 who are more liberal.

His wife is not a racist. She has a point of view that some of you could never understand. That doesn't make it wrong and she really doesn't owe you an explanation. Besides the quote everyong claims she made is always wrong. Look it up for yourself.

Anonymous said...

As for the rant against his "unamerican" pastor. Remember that same pastor was a soldier for six years.

How is that unamerican?

Anonymous said...

His rivals talked about him constantly during the debates and lostto him. I think that says a lot.

Please start to admit that McCain's top advisor are those same people you claim, with no facts, that Obama has dealt with.

Of course he would not say whohe would pick for his cabinet. That would be presumptious of him. Has McCain picked Phil Graham (such an outstanding individual) yet?

Okay you won't vote for him. So why are you so scaredof him that you have to lie about him all the time?

Anonymous said...

I can't vote for Obama because I think he is leading us even more toward a socialistic nation. If you think health care is a problem now, just wait for the government run universal health care run by the government. Hell, our government has made a mess of medicare, social security, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, the post office and on and on and on. When I see a close up of him on TV, I can see the letters KGB etched on his eyes.

Anonymous said...

Thank you. You put into words what I was thinking in my head. Obama's views actually frighten me. I fear what will happen to America if he wins. The fact that so many are willing to over look his alliances with characters that are less than honorable.

And Mr. Anonymous from 11:12... maybe you should look up who Hugo Chavez really is and what he did and THEN make that statement.
