Another Comment Worthy Of A Post

"Joe,

I was speaking with a friend and discussing what a great time we had at Crown on Friday night and how nice it was for the Hearne's to step and volunteer to help. They also told me that the Civic Center was contacted to help out and they said yes they would help for a mere $6000.00. How pathetic, we all know the Civic Center was never intended for anything other than for the service of our community. Thanks again Civic Center one more time the community has had to look else where."

Great point, though. If the facility IS public, and publicly funded, then the public use should be it's primary function. I've heard discussions about the local high school proms and graduations not being there, going instead to private facilities or out of county, because the civic center was either too expensive or otherwise unavailable.

This is rumor. Please try to confirm with at least one of the interested parties--the Civic Center or the Cancer Society. And print a follow-up.

very similar to our son's class at Mardela High wanting to use the civic center to graduate. Some exorbitant amount was quoted to his class, so they've had to go to Princess Anne at UMES to hold their ceremonies since then. Its so wonderful to have a YOUTH and CIVIC center that charges so much you can't afford to use it!!!

Gary Mackes should have been run out of there years ago, but he fell into something when Henry Parker adopted his lame ass and he has been a permanent fixture ever since. He has been the one running the county for the Democrats for many years now. Hopefully we will get some real elected representatives with the nads to kick his ass to the curb before he retires.

you people really have no idea what you are talking about. The prior County Council directed the Civic Center to be "self sustaining and to operate like a business in order to minimize and eventually eliminate any taxpayer subsidy"....to do that you cannot open the main arena, light it and heat/cool it for free....the County Executive has recognized that this Council directive has had a negative impact on citizens use of the faciliity for event like those you have mentioned. He has, therefore, established a commission of citizens to review the civic center and make recommendations to him as to how the situation can be improved.Public input will be part of this process.

Try being part of the solution insted of bomb throwers ignorant of the facts.

I don't know who the person was who heard rumor the Civic Center was contacted, and subsequently refused and/or wanted to charge too much for Relay. Only two venues were contacted by Relay: Salisbury University and The Crown. Both said yes. The Crown was chosen. Relay is thrilled both venues were willing to help out. I'm sure the Civic Center would have also, but they weren't asked. The Civic Center was never contacted. Period. So, I'm glad the person who wrote in had a good time at Relay, but he/she is mistaken on the role of the Civic Center. They had no role. They were never asked. Simple as that.

This post is a complete fabrication....the Civic Center was never contacted.
