BREAKING NEWS!

The Daily Times Is About To Change Big Time!

Look for the Daily Times retail cost to go up soon for rack and store sales.

The Daily Times has lost enough business that they are considering a cost increase on their daily paper. We're not sure just how much but this should be the final nail.

LONG LIVE THE BLOGS!

Oh, don't tell me the Blogs had nothing to do with this either.

We have a local paper, which on most days is not worth the paper it's printed on ... and they want to raise the price.
I guess that makes sense to stay in business if you have a good product and you have product demand.
I, along with many people on the shore no longer subscribe to DT because their delivery is not reliable...and they try to rip you off on the billing at the end of your subscription.
I ONLY buy a DT paper if I know for a fact there is an article in there I want to keep or need.
They can't raise the rates on the advertisers really either, because they know they will lose ads because the ones they now they can't print worth a damn.
I think we're seeing the end coming of the DT's here in Salisbury.
Too bad it took Gannett so long to realize these jokers were running the paper into the ground.

Maybe their on-line/supervising editors shouldn't be such dickwads to their loyal readers, who they antagonize enough to eventually start their own independent blogs that further contribute to their ultimate downfall. Problem is, those folks just aren't too smart over there.

They must be going out of business -- the office/plant on Carroll Street is for sale.

can't be that they need money because they just laid off the heads of marketing, production, circulation & accounting along with a bunch of others. that should save them a ton of money

They've been TILGHMANIZED !!!! Can't print the truth for fear of retaliation from the mayor and chief of police, not wanting the public to really see what's going on in the NO CRIME, SQEAKY CLEAN city of Salisbury!!!

Raise price and sell fewer copies, ie. less profit. It's like a tax, raise them and you collect less. Liberals don't understand that logic. The last great story DT had was the one that Joe commented on, saying that they had done some real investigative reporting and recommended buying it that day. The story was about the Warden of the Somerset County Detention Center James Henderson and the corruption that was revealed in the coarse of the investigation. That is the kind of stuff that sells papers.

Many small to medium sized town papers have gone under within the last five years. Along with the blog revolution, many other news outlets are updating and breaking stories online. What a lot of people dont understand is this is really just the beginning. A lot of major papers will start to give in to the online news casting just to keep thier papers alive. In the meantime, major online news sites such as drudge are having a hard time keeping up with the bloggers and are realizing they have to work to keep thier subscribers. Plus, all the blog reports are keeping them honest. The truth in media revolution has begun (finally)

That's right, many may say they don't read Joe's blog, who cares? Anyone can also check out WBOC and WMDT news online for free as well and they have free classifides too.

Raising the price of something that nobody wants shows what kind of morons they are, should be real good for advertizing too. The kiss of death.

The blogs didn't have as much to do with the decline of newspaper sales as did the increase of internet news outlets like MSN, AOL, and The Daily Times itself.

Why would you be happy about putting people out of work? That is just COLD.

1:47 -- Hey dummy, they're not going out of business just because the building is for sale. They're moving to a new place across town.

5:58. Have you ever called the DT with a concern/complaint (this applies to you even if you too are a staff member)? You see some of us aren't stupid and have very long memories when we are crapped on as paying customers. I have a list of names (not general staff-The High and Mighty editors) and when I notice they are fired I buy ice cream and giggle my ass off.

I feel for anyone that loses a job. I don't need ole Bubba's crystal ball, there are so many free sources for news that you would think somebody could have read the writing on the wall (poor management and a product of lower quality for more money).

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it's almost to the point of stupid to actually pay for a newspaper to read yesterday's news.
Another antiquated business, that move may have killed Gannett here.

DT advertising rates are way up there. A salesperson tried to sell me one recently, but got all nervous when I insisted on a guaranteed refund if they did a poor job of printing my ad. The best that they could come up with was "maybe we can give you a partial credit for your next ad."

For the kind of money they are charging, they should guarantee that the job is done right.

If you don't subscribe (I wouldn't) you can get a reduced priced Daily Times at the Dollar Tree. Maybe all retailers should take the hint
