Bike Week Is Proving To Be A Huge Success

Officers direct the constant and stead flow of traffic into Winter Place Park.

This is the parking lot at Winter Place Park and it's FULL!

The crowds of people were buying up items like there was no tomorrow. Food, clothing, you name it.

The above photo is the OVERFLOW parking on the main road, (Ball Park) heading into Winter Place Park.

Thank God things turned around for this event since yesterday because this is a fantastic event for Wicomico County. Hopefully next year they reconsider the Insurance to provide beer sales at the event.

Nevertheless, get out to Winter Place Park this weekend and see all the bikes and vendors at the event. Everyone is having a blast and the Bikes are just out of this world!

I am in no way against this event. However, the traffic situation should have been planned better. Blue Ribbon Road which comes directly into Winter Place Park was closed leaving the only entrance at Hobbs Road. I work at one of the doctor's offices there and it was hell trying to get in and out there. Next year please make Blue Ribbon Road the entrance (preferrably the only entrance) to this event.

One thing I have noticed is the large amount of Law Enforcement on the roads in and around Salisbury. While I can appreciate that some “1%ers” that frequent these motorcycle events can and will cause problems, that’s why they call them the 1% of motorcycle riders. With that said why don’t the cops (City, County and State) get there asses in there police cars and go saturate the high crime areas of this county instead of “chillin’” at some fair grounds and running radar on route 50? There is a lot of tax paying residents that do not have freedom of movement in their own neighborhood because of high crime….we all know that is true! Why can’t this “show of force” be used to help the people that help pay these cops salaries and not to baby-sit a bunch of adults? What a misappropriation of government funds and manpower. When are we going to get some law enforcement or leaders that care about “everyone” in this County?

Joe, I rode my bike to the Harley Davidson Shop in Ocean City as well today and that place was packed with thousands of people and vendors as well. Who ever said it was a flop in your fist post didn't know what they were talking about and possibly and FOB.

Delmarva Bike Week will always be a success and lets hope we can keep it in Wicomico County.

Not only are the Bike Week sites packed with people there are thousands of bikers on the highways and back roads. They are also at the gas stations, hotels, restaurant local stores. This is and event that will forever put Wicomico County on the map. There are bikers from all over the East Coast at this event.

Wah Wah Wah, it was planned better and that is what they decided to do. If you don't like it than go somewhere else for a vacation this week. This is the biggest event to happen in Wicomico County for years. Winterplace Park has been there for several years and it was meant for use like this event. Get over it.

Lance Carol:

I strongly disagree. Go to the event yourself and see the volume of people visiting. They are coming and going by the thousands and the Law Enforcement Agencies are keeping things under control.

Look, everyone knows I appreciate Sheriff Lewis and the fine job he is doing with the Sheriff's Department. That being said, this is a huge undertaking and I say, better safe than sorry.

Go to Worcester County too. I don't hear you bitching about the incredible amount of Law Enforcement there. If you think Wicomico County is over kill, you're way off base.

Some times I think people just like to bitch, just to bitch. Because of Sheriff Lewis, the high crime areas are far better under control than ever before.

These guys are working very hard and putting in a ton of overtime just to make sure this, (and all other crime) is under control. For once in your life tip your hat to these hard working people and thank them for doing what they were hired to do. YOU don't do it.

Lance Carroll and Triumph I have to respectfully disagree with you and I hope your comments are because you are a cop hater.

One thing that disturbs me is the fact that our Sheriff in Wicomico County refused the assistance of the Maryland State Police. This assistance could have been at a tremendous savings to our local taxes. Yes this is true, I have spoke with several ranking officers within the Maryland State Police and they confirmed this. All leave within the state police has been cancelled for this event so they can put more troopers on the road. The majority of the troopers will be in Worcester County not Wicomico County because our Sheriff said he can handle Wicomico County. If you don't believe me then why aren't there troopers at Winter Place Park? Ocean Downs used to be saturated with troopers from the Maryland State Police, not here!

I work down Ocean City and the entire group I work with can't stand these bikers, they pull up next to us at any light and have to rev up their engines, you just know they are saying " Vroom Vroom look at me, Daddy never paid me any attention ", with any luck it will rain tonight and the people of Ocean City will get some sleep...

Since this is being sponsored by a business in Ocean City, are they paying for the police protection? If non-profit organizations in the county ask for deputys to be at an event, they have to PAY them.

joe i know you are "IN BETWEEN" with me, but what happened to the guy who used to say "WAIT TIL I SEE YOU AT BIKE WEEK" ??? a no show pssy i quess.

Funny you should mention that. Not a single person with an attitude whatsoever. Yeah, I've been there several times a day, each day so far and nothing.

Bikers spend a lot of money, a very small percentage cause problems so they are adding a lot to the local economy, they are paying their share of taxes for police presence. God your fruggin' kids get on my nerves, does that mean I should request to have them banned or caged?

At least keep them on a leash with a muzzle.

The same people complaining about the police being there would be the first to say "why weren't they there?" If there was an uncontroled event or other trouble. Crawl back under your rock grumpy.

To Lance Carrol:
I am a member of an MC. (not 1%)
My club and others like us have great relationships with 1% clubs.
It to the benefit of all that motorcyclists are good citizens.

True MC's give respect and get it back in return. If you act like an ass, you will be treated that way.

Do you have any specific instances that 1% ers have caused problems at Delmarva bike week?

I doubt that there will be any problems from clubs. Most problems come from the tough guy beer hound shooting his mouth off. He will likely have problems with any man.

anonymous 8:41, are you that 1% pussy out there afraid to state their name? Sure looks that way to me.

This is for 5:16. You are absolutely wrong about Sheriff Lewis refusing the help of MSP. They refused to assist with any traffic control points at any location relating to Bike Week! They wanted to bill Harley Davidson $60,ooo. Sheriff Lewis told The orginizers that his office would handle it in Wicomico County! This event is huge for this county and The Sheriffs Office wanted to do its part to make it a success! Sounds like some Troopers got thier feelings hurt because the Sheriff stood up to make this event happen in Wicomico County.

I talked to a lot of these bikers.
While some seem a little gruff, almost all seemed patriotic. It seems that around 98% of these American patriots favor McCain/Palin:)

So, by my calculation, 98% of radical Middle Eastern Muslims want Barak Hussein Obama to be our president, and 98% of Patriotic Americans want McCain/Palin:)

Patriotic black Americans, understandably, will vote for Obama at over 90%. But I believe black Americans are less than 15% of the electorate.
Since Middle Eastern Muslims can't vote in our election, the only influence they will have on the outcome of our national election is with the mushy brained, politically correct ultra-liberal, don't hold 9/11 against Islam crowd.
Final outcome in Nov: McCain-55-60%
Obama40-45% :) TAL
BET ON IT!

my understanding is that the county is handling everything at winterplace and the state is going to handle all of the other calls for service in the county. I like to see have angencies working together side by side. how ever i think that having one agency working the event is better b/c one agency personel will know each other, and what each other is able to do. radio communication is better if one agency is doing the work at a certian point.

Well if you look at the deputy in the first pic it looks like the bikers are laughing with him so it doesn't seem like they mind the cops being there. And, what a GREAT ASS that cop has. Whooh, who is that studmuffin?

First off I don’t have a problem with “Bike Week” or motorcyclist. To the contrary, I think “Bike Week” is really good for the local economy and I like to see all the great bikes that are on the roads.

Joe and others, you are right there are a lot of people at Winter Place Park and other places, but you don’t need POLICE to do something that fire department personal can do and have done at other events ie: Pig in the Park. Anyone with an orange vest can direct traffic. I don’t see police at every crosswalk directing traffic on College Ave when school lets out. You are right, I am sure they are putting in TONS of overtime. I have been in the Army for all of my adult life and have been deployed to Iraq and many other places so, I fully understand and appreciate the job that Police do. I just feel that this is an event that could be filled by more security guards or National Guard personnel. If I am not mistaken there is a MP battalion in Salisbury, make the event their duty for a drill weekend and put them to work. My problem is not with the patrol officers it is with who they work for, Chief Webster and Sheriff Lewis. Like I said earlier there are a lot of “Tax” paying residents that live in neighborhoods that are under siege by criminals so why not spend the “overtime” cleaning up those areas. Yes, Salisbury is in this county so Sheriff Lewis can and should be doing something about the crime in Salisbury.

8:36 PM you are helping prove my point. I haven’t heard of any major incidents associated with bike week. A few fights at bars but that happens every weekend. So why such a large Police “show of force” for a group of people that by in large are just riding their motorcycles and buying a Harley t-shirt?

I do agree with you Mr. Carroll regarding the amount of police that are out and about. I drove to Berlin on Friday and was shocked by the amount of MSP that were not only on the road, but on the side of the road doing radar. I personally counted 12 troopers on the way down and 9 were on the side of the road. I was really surprised to see all the cops….for biker’s week??? I have nothing but complete respect for police and the job they do but I really though this was a little excessive.

Mr. Carroll I don’t think you were “bitching” at all...I think you are being very observant and honest with your opinion.

lANCE YOU REALLY ARE AN IDIOT!!!!YOU THINK ENOUGH VOLUNTEER FIREMEN CAN STAY HOME FROM WORK AND DIRECT TRAFFIC FOR 4 DAYS. TAKE YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS!! VOLUNTEER FIREMEN HAVE JOBS AND FAMILIES!
ANOTHER THING BEFORE TALKING ABOUT SHERIFF LEWIS NOT HELPING SALISBURY DO A LITTLE RESEARCH ON WHO IS REFUSING THE HELP.

4:57 Just to let you know Anon this blog is for opinions not to name calling...you maybe angry but you should really learn how to communicate with others. Lance I don't agree with you completely but you do have some valid points...its just a shame that some people can't see outside their box...

4:47, At least I am not an A-hole! So it is ok that for VFD to work all kinds of events, because they do? You are right they are Volunteers, which means the one’s that don’t want to help don’t have to and the ones that want to work the event can help. What about the National Guard, what is your response to that? You never addressed how to combat the crime problem in Salisbury/Wicomico . You just pass the buck saying the City refused help so there is nothing Sheriff’s department can do; I am tired of hearing that lame excuse. The City doesn’t want help form the County; the county does not want help from MSP, Blah, Blah, Blah. And as far as Sheriff Lewis, I have never seen that big black Operations Bus parked at Booth Street and West Road, which is NOT in the city limits and there is a lot of crime in that area. Why is that?
You 4:47 don’t give any ideas to help this community you just want to degrade someone that points out that this county has problems, Keep turning a blind eye to real issues that are effecting this community. 4:47 I bet you work for a “county” agency??

WELL ANNIE AND LANCE, I AM SORRY IF "IDIOT" OFFENDED YOU, LANCE YOU ARE CORRECT THAT THE VOLUNTEERS WOULD NOT HAVE TO GO IF THEY DIDN'T WANT BUT IN A REALISTIC WORLD IT JUST IS NOT APPROPRIATE TO USE VFD FOR TRAFFIC CONTROL AT AN EVENT LIKE THIS. VFD PERSONEL NEED TO BE AVAILABLE IN AN EMERGENCY, NOT OCCUPIED BY TRAFFIC CONTROL....
AS FAR AS CRIME AROUND HERE EVERYONE HAS AN EXCUSE. I TO AM CONCERNED WITH THE AREA. IF I HAD ALL THE ANSWERS I WOULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT.
