Salisbury's National Night Out

While Salisbury certainly had a different National Night out, many attended and enjoyed the festivities. However, it was all about the photo ops as the City went into this Park two weeks before the event and added a brand new set of Basketball Courts and brand new fencing around the entire Park. Can you tell it's an election year and they're doing everything they can, (finally) for the black communities? I guess it takes every 4 years to get something done for them!

The Salisbury Police Department and Sheriff's Department arrived in full uniform but the Mayor was absent from the event. I said this last year and I'll repeat it this year, the Police Officers need to dress down for these events and be one of the "guys." That's just my opinion but as you can tell from my posts on other events, they were very personable and down to earth. I hope you get my drift here?

I see the city has 2 a/c units on the roof of that step van yet there are no a/c units on the roof of the old bookmobile turned county sheriff van. Why does that tiny step van need 2 a/c units yet the sheriff gets by with none?

The police and sheriff's deputies are in uniform so that the kids can see that they are not always scary. If they were not in uniform, how many of those kids do you think would recognize them?

The reason "the City went into this park two weeks before the event" is that the park upgrade has been in the works for the better part of a year.

Work was originally scheduled to be finished in June but they ran into contractor (and financing?)issues. I believe this project is also receiving funding from WCR&P; I know the evening program for the kids is done through the county.

And FYI, this is not about it being a black neighborhood. The driving force in Doverdale right now is a white guy who actually cares about all of the kids regardless of their skin color.
