Question of the Day, Thur 8/7

This question brought to you by Ben:

There are only 4 months and 16 days until Christmas.

That's 20 paychecks. For those of you who get payed bi-weekly, it's only 10 paychecks away.

So, have you thought about Christmas?

Yeah I;ve thought about it, thats about it.I believe it's going to be lean this year, because folks just don't have the money.Maybe now we will start celebrating the reason for the season, and not focus so much on material things.Just spend quality time with family and friends.

Right on. Christmas has become all about money. We have leaned out in the past few years and have found less unused clutter in our hose because of it.Enjoy your family, they go away too soon.

the only reason i celebrate christmas is because of the children and grand children, i think it is a capitalistic exploited holiday meant to only draw you into the retail stores to spend money thinking your supposed to. just another trick to get you to feel quilty if you dont participate and believe in god. i know alot of you at the sound of no god freak out and think im a bastard and the devil, well i dont give a shit what you think.

Right on, Cruggly! I don't think you're a bastard or the devil, you are exactly right, 100%, every single word. I WORK RETAIL. I hate what I call "National Mandatory Give Everyone You Know A Gift Day."
I would so much rather give a gift because I WANT to, not because of a day marked on the calendar. I'd rsther receive gifts for the same reason. Those are the gifts that mean something.

Doh'!

We have 3 kids, ages 5 to 10. Man can they break me!

Tell your kids to make a list, then tell them to mark the most important things on the list, then tell them to trim it down to the 1 item they just can't live without and 2 alternate items in the event you can't get the number 1 item. Buy that one item and be done with it. Kids get to much anyway, why shower them with more THINGS they will use for a week if you're lucky.

Here's a novel concept, give an item you made be it food, clothing, or decor. Make it with your own hands and heart.

Suggestion of gift if possible: For people with kids, give a gift certificate and if you want a small toy so the present is an item a child can play with, For people on a limited income or who can make the basics give a gift card that is where they have perscriptions. The best thing to do is remember there are 364 other days that people need a positive something in their life. I don't celebrate Christmas but let the ones who celebrate anything enjoy it. How ever if the 'fat boy" wants to give me the motorcycle I've wanted for decades bring it on.

We plan ahead and try to get everything on sale... we literally start Christmas shopping in July... that's when retailers are really trying to get rid of everything to make room for the junk they are going to try to sell you during the holidays... last year Christmas shopping was done before Thanksgiving and it was bliss... and we spent about 75% less than we would have if we had waited for the holiday season... plus the gifts meant something because we had 5 long months to think about what to get our loved ones rather than buying a gift at the last second for the sake of buying "something." (Recommendation: keep a list of what you already bought and for whom so you don't forget and buy them something twice!).
