Chavez warns U.S. after getting Russian warplanes

RIA Novosti
Monday, Aug 4, 2008

President Hugo Chavez said Venezuela had taken delivery of 24 Russian Sukhoi fighter jets, and warned the U.S. Fourth Fleet that his country is ready to defend itself.

“We’ve received the 24 Sukhoi aircraft,” he said Sunday. “They’re for defensive purposes; we’re not going to attack anybody.”

The deal included training for pilots and crews, as well as missiles for the fighters.

Chavez said the Sukhoi missiles have far greater range than those of the U.S. F-16 fighter jet, and warned the U.S. Fourth Fleet to keep out of Venezuelan waters.

“Any gringo ship that sails into brown waters [river waters] will itself turn brown and go to the bottom, because they’ll not get through,” he said.

The jets are part of a recent $4 billion deal with Moscow, including tanks, transport planes, air-defense systems and AK assault rifles.

In 2005-2006, Venezuela signed a deal to buy more than 50 combat helicopters, 24 Su-30MK2 fighters, 12 Tor-M1 air defense missile systems and 100,000 AK-103 rifles from Russia.

Chavez, an outspoken critic of Washington since coming to power nine years ago, has focused his foreign policy on bolstering ties with countries outside the U.S. sphere of influence.

its probably a worse thing for some of his neighbors than the u.s., hes not stupid enough to think thats enough to start a military fight with us. hes postering, the countries down south are becomimg more involved in the global market these days, russia sees that and wants to be present as these countries grow and trade.

1:25 post is right on. Technology is great but the pilot makes the real difference and we have the best trained military in the world. Chavez is also too stupid to know that the Navy flies the F18A Super Hornet not the F16

I wonder what that commi plane will do with the F-22 Raptor. NO COMPETION AT ALL.

Chevron didn't pay for this - you did by buying gas at Citgo!

We certainly don't have to worry about any weapons Chavez has, at least not right now. What most Americans don't know is that one of the USA's largest refiners, Citgo is a subsidiary of Venezuela's state owned oil company, Petroleos de Venezuela S.A. (PDVSA). That means it, in the final analysis, belongs to Venezuelan President, Chavez!
The first impulse: Don't buy Citgo gas. No Good, that won't work! With todays world's demand for oil, they don't need our business; we need their oil! If Venezuela were to cut their oil shipments to us, then we would have little choice other than to see how good they really are with their new "toys" from Russia.

Chavez working in concert with his America hating friends in Iran to curtail our oil supply would most certainly put us and them in a most dangerous situation.

6:37 pm, are you suggesting we have a right to the resources of another country based on our perceived need?

We'd blow away every plane he's got before they got off the ground. He's speeking from a lower oriface. Send a cruise missle from a sub personally to him just to say hello

anon 6:37,
Oh Heavens, No! I'm certainly not suggesting that. I'm stating it as a self evident point of necessity & fact!

Just like I, and I assume you, don't want to give our personal property & America back to the American Indians from whom we took it in a centuries long war of agression and occupation, I have no problem doing whatever it takes for my children and our culture to survive.

Were our enemies to endeavor to cause us to crash and devolve into chaos through a deliberate conspiracy to deprive us of oil, that would be a very clear declaration of war! I think a vast majority of our fellow Americans would lose their hollow cries of "no blood for oil"
when our children are starving and the Muslim dogs are over-running our nation & raping our women and children. All politically correct bleeding hearts would cry in unison, but, alas, too late, "damn, that crazy Littleton was right; we should have done what was necessary to be able to protect our children." These people are our SELF DECLARED enemies, and if they use oil as a weapon to strangle us, well, "all's fair in love and war, isn't it Mr. Truman?" It's a rough world; it always has been. I really don't like war. I hope there comes a time when we can safely "beat our swords into plows." That time is not here yet! But as wymzie so eloquently put at the end of her post. "WTF?" Do you want to face Mecca and pray to Allah 3 times a day? No thanks, I'll fight and gladly die for the preservation of western culture. What do you think our Brave young men and women are fighting and dying for right now, to bring democracy to some America hating, radical Shiite Islamic enemies? Get real and, again, WTF?

10:25, you are very scary.

Anonymous said...

Thank you! But methinks it is not I who scare you but, rather, the TRUTH about the world in which we live. What, a million screaming idiot Iranians chanting "Death to America" while they try to develop atomic weapons doesn't scare you? ME EITHER! Fear not, thou trembling one, for we have God and technology on our side. If some of us die at the hands of our enemies, join me in me in showing them a Nietzschean grin in our victorious death; that is all I ask of the those who wish not to join or bow down to Islam or Chavez. Fear no man! Is Shakespeare understood? "Death is a necessary end and it will come when it will come. The brave taste death only once. Cowards die a thousand deaths."
