Although Collective Bargaining has passed, how unethical do YOU think it is when the Mayor of a Town passes out the above two pages at the Town Council Meeting the night before the special election?
This Mayor needs to be thrown out on his A$$, regardless of his past history. He has been well known for not showing support towards the Police but this time around the Citizens have spoken AGAIN and I'm confident he'll do everything in his powers to fight this election too.
Nevertheless, the Delmar Police Department will enjoy the securities they deserve. Oh, and the Citizens chose this to be what they want for their Officers. I doubt very seriously these Officers will ever forget where they came from. Start showing some respect from BOTH SIDES.
As for the Mayor, start looking for a new job because that was just too low for someone is the position of Mayor and you don't deserve the job any more.

This is a very important issue and I am glad the police have finally won. What ever happen to the door to door campaigning that should have been done to let the citizens know that this vote was coming up. The only reason I found out about it was that I saw a sign by rite aid.
Sounds like this mayor is taking lessons from Barrie. Difference is Barrie would have never dirtied her hands, she would have had her minions take care of that.
This was not passed out at the Joint Council Meeting. I was there. It was on a table so that if people wanted one they could have one. This was also not the first showing of it. It was taken door to door by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor before the referendum.
The documents are FACT. The money has to come from somewhere...but the Delmar cops don't care...it won't affect any of them as far as higher taxes because NONE of them live in Delmar!!!
As far as the FOP charging the Mayor? Here we go...already!

Funny how I was just thinking about the flat out lies printed on the Towns propaganda. Of course, the Town didn't want any of the citizens to know about the special election so THEY would win. Nice work by the FOP and to Joe to get the everyone out to vote.
You say that the police have finally won - and that may be true for this battle. I'm happy that the vote turned out the way it did. It's a pity there wasn't a better turn out. But the real winners here are the citizens. Regardless of the results of the vote - there are more important underlying issues.
The members of the FOP and the Delmar P.D. spent a great deal of time educating the public, collecting signatures, and doing what was required of them to get the question to a vote of the public. Yet it appears that certain elected officials chose to intentionally employ their attorney - at the cost of the taxpayer - to hinder the effort to bring the issue of getting the matter to a vote of the people. It is obvious that this attempt was designed to undermine the efforts of those involved by not allowing the citizens of the Town of Delmar to exercise their Constitutional Right to vote on a matter of significant importance. This speaks volumes of the Mayors character. The Officers and the FOP were forced to take the Town of Delmar to court in order to have their Constitutional Rights upheld. Luckily, the Judge that heard the case still believes in democracy.
Now it is important that we continue to watch to see if this Mayor will follow the lead of the Wicomico County Council as it continues to spend the taxpayers money to override the will of the people as it relates to the collective bargaining referendum for the Deputies. If you remember, 71.3% of the voters in Wicomico County voted in favor of collective bargaining WITH binding arbitration for the Deputies, yet the Wicomico County Council continues to spend our hard earned dollars on efforts which would, in effect, nullify the vote of the people. We owe it to ourselves and our children to remember these issues as the next elections approach.
There are two quotes from Thomas Jefferson that come to mind when I think of the circumstances surrounding thiese types of situations:
"Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."
And;
"Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are its only safe depositories."

How long until the fire fighters union in Salisbury get collective bargining? If a small town department like Delmar can get it then Salisbury should be able to get it also?
