Those Were The Days!

"Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle (a car) ran great, those were the days!"

I loved the Statler Brothers! My mom used to play their records. Going off to count flowers on the wall now...

with all the money this city spends on bullshit they need to freshen up that tiny little sign on rt. 50 in front of the GOB dedicated to colbourne dykes.

you mean to tell me with all the people that work for the city they pass it every day and aren't paying attention? It won't be long and it will be an eyesore. I guess that's the point.

Chief Dykes commanded respect, and he gave respect. No one, I mean NO ONE screwed with HIS officers. If you were wrong you paid the price, but if you were right, he would back you to no end. Can't say that for the current Chief.

In my humble opinion.....

Paul Martin,Chief Dykes, and Bob Eton were a class act. Quite different from what we have in Salisbury now. Paul Martin was a man of his word. Dykes was fist class all the way. Bob kept everyone dotting the I's and crossing the T's. We didn't appreciate what we had when they were serving the city. And yes, they served the city, not themselves. Mare Barrie Tilghman isn't worthy of shining Paul Martin's boots. Barrie knew that she could never get away with the things that she wanted to do if Dykes was still involved in the city. Barrie, may your soul (if you have one) rot in hell for the things that you have done to the city of Salisbury and it's people.

One thing you cannot say about BPT, is she was not smart enough to realize that Chief Dykes "slowest move was too fast for her'"
Barry Tilghman reconized before she was sworn in that she needed a yes man as chief and Coulborne was not a yes man.
The Chief had many qualities and two of them were fairness and faithfulness. He was always fair in his dealings and if you were his friend he would stick by you.
As I have said in the past you cannot bestow honor on someone they must earn it. Coulborne Dykes was not perfect, as none of us are, but he was honorable and he served his nation and his city with HONOR.
They will NEVER be able to say that about the current, mayor.

Chief Dykes spent every cent he could think of when he was in office. What was the cost for his desk - $8000.00? Does that ring a bell? What about his horse and very special saddle? He used every perk available and not available to his own personal use. He was not "lily white" - he was looking out for #1. So there, I have said it.

10:19 AM

You may have said it but you said it anonymously therefore, it counts for nothing.

Your chief Webster wouldn't make a patch on Coulbourne Dykes ass when it comes to police work or leading his troops.

There, I've said it.

To 10:19 am

That's what perks are for you idiot!

10:19 a bit bitter are you? Anything Chief Dykes ever did was to benefit the city not himself. He wore a uniform, he was out in public and he made decisions based on the well-being of the agency and the city. He surely did not put his head in the sand and pretend everything was rosy. You, my friend, are not lily white yourself. Perhaps you are/were one of those officers who emulate the current Chief - worthless!

Joe, the one thing the Mare did right, and gained her such much early support was get rid if that crook, it was proven..... you better come up with something else. Granted, she has gone way way past her welcome, but please stay with the current facts and continue to push her departure.

I guess we forgot what a good ole boy he was and how much he was STEALING from the city with all his under the table deals...whats the deal on this guy, he was a crook and a police chief, the lowest form of human life...yes a cop that steals is the lowest form of life...Yes Paul Martin was the best, but don't put the chiefy in the same class as martin...but god has a funny way of punishing those who steal, cheat and etc..He did get the new building going, put I would like to have seen how much tax payers would have saved on just a police station!!

Paul Martin was the best mayor Salisbury ever had...period!!

It goes to show you what happens when you let a woman run the show!

It is clear to me that no one making comments on "Those Were the Days!" ever worked with Colbourne Dykes. Those who worked with him know the truth and it isn't pretty. So, keep on believing he was "all that" cause it isn't the truth.
I know this won't go on the blog because I don't agree with Joe.

Chief Dykes was a far better commander than the present chief. Not working directly for or with Paul I cannot accurately comment on his administration but I did not hear the daily criticism that is occurring presently

please bring it back...a chief that cares about his men, a mayor that will pay the police what they deserve and promise....Give unto them because they give unto you.

the mare tells this city chief of police what his priorities are

Yes barrie's attack on dykes is the ONLY thing she did correct in her terms as mayor, got rid of a crook, a cheating husband, and a lousy father, but worst of all he treated the officers he dislike like shit, and the ones he liked were all drunks, just like some of the ones left that are still working at SPD from his reign, hmm ... lets not forget the "friends" he had and how much money they made of a police chief that stole and took money any way he could
