Today marks our Nations Independence from the tyranny of England for 232 years!
Many things have changed over the course of this small segment of time in human
existence. Man has the inborn desire for freedom, and every so often a people rise up and decide that they aren't going to live under tyranny anymore. It is at this point that the masses revolt against the powers that be. The revolts have several times resulted in a Democracy, but Democracy is short lived here is something interesting I came upon the other day and I thought it would be appropriate to share it on Independence Day.
HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?

'Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:
Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000. Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million, Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. I went to Hebron last year because we didn't have fireworks here. I think I will go there again tonight, I saw so many people I hadn't seen in a long time and had fun. Happy Forth to all, don't drink and drive! Hope to see you, the Mrs. and the young'un's there crossroadblues! You've done a great job being a Dad dude.
wymzie, i have been saying/preaching this to everyone i know for longer than i remember. some just think im a wierd dude, some think im crazy and some are finally starting to see the reality of the america we have to live in today. at this stage in my life i care more about the future of this country for my children and their children. for myself i really hope i live long enough to see the country take control of itself again, to see capitalistic corporate america lose their stranglehold on the american people. that would be very satisfying to me.

This is VERY misleading. It's the Blue states (like Maryland) that pay FAR more to the Federal government in taxes than they receive back in services.
It's the Red states, like Alabama, that sucks far more out of the Federal government than they pay.
The proper view is that it the Red states that are on welfare... (the whole darn state).

Have you been to PG County????
The welfare state of PG County is where all of our tax dollars go.
There is soooo much subsidized housing there. I would venture to say that there are more people on welfare in PG County just one of Marylands County's than the entire state of Alabama.

Sorry. Your numbers just numbers don't add up. The location with the smallest revenue/expenditure ratio is Baltimore City. The county with the largest ratio is Montgomery County. PG county is somewhere in the middle. I believe the Wicomico county is comparable to PG county. Don't forget that the median income in PG county ($55k) is quite a bit larger than Wicomico county ($39k), so they collect a lot more tax revenue too...
But really, social welfare only accounts for between 1% and 2% of the total tax revenues. Railing on about 1% or 2% of the budget is just not worth your time, especially when you consider that most welfare recipients are children who are impoverished through no fault of their own.
