Structure Fire - Mardela Springs







July 3, 2008 - Wicomico County stations 9 Mardela Springs, Sta.14 Sharptown and Dorchester County Sta.11 Vienna were alerted for a building fire on Rt.50 westbound in the are of mile marker 100. Crews arrived to find two large out buildings and two boats with heavy fire around all. Engine 906 arrived and put two hand lines in service and laid a supply line for the next due tanker into the scene. Tanker 901 arrived and hooked into the engine while Engine 1402 arrived and put another line in service. Crews had to deal with multiple exposures. Command requested an Engine Tanker from Sta.5 Hebron to the scene.

Crews worked for nearly 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. The home owner stated that he was burning some trash and thought the fire was out and he left. The trash fire gained strength and walked the grass and into the buildings.

The Maryland State Fire marshals Office is investigating the fire.

Units on scene:
Command 9, Rescue Engine 906, Tanker 901, Engine Tanker 5, Engine Tanker 1402, Engine 1404, Truck 14, Engine 12 and Ambulance 211.
