“It,” in this case, is the payment of fees for legal services rendered for the City at Barrie’s request, but without authorization by the City Council. “Again” refers to the payment that she ordered to be made for services by Robin Cockey and others, including T. J. Maloney, in regard to former Police Chief Dykes. That episode occurred shortly after she was first elected in 1998.
Now, in light of the Council’s failure to amend the budget a second time to appropriate additional funds to pay the City Solicitor, one must wonder if Barrie will repeat her earlier decision to pay the fee stated by Cockey’s law firm without the Council’s approval.
One possible difference of decisive import: back then the funds had been appropriated, but not so now – that’s what the Council declined to do at its May 27 meeting. And there are severe penalties for spending funds that have not been appropriated for the purpose of the expenditure. But is that really enough to stop Barrie from proceeding? Don’t count on it.
A stunt of some sort is being fabricated in the Mayor’s office to “justify” the payment to Wilber’s law firm? Now that you can count on.

If Barrie spent as much time on real city business as she does on how to get over on city residents she just might be worth something but as it stands now, she is nothing more than whale s**t as far as I'm concerned - and that's pretty damn low.

Yep, Joe, I well remember the fiasco of 1998 in which I and several other citizens took BPH to court over wiring unathorized payment to a local attorney. The Council President of the time was out of town and she asked the VP to sign off on the more than $16,000 fee's for this attorney. He naturally refused to sign, so what did our Mayor do? She wired the funds to the attorney, totally without Council authorization, and believe it or not, we the citizens lost the case in front of a setup retired judge? Go figure. So, I'm sure BPT will find a way to get the money to Wilber's firm whether honestly or not!!
When she does wire funds or pay him without council authorization the hammer should fall and fall hard on her.
