While that is an interesting quote, it was made in a far different world than the one we live in now. Even Thomas Jefferson, 75 years before Harrison, sent the Navy and the Marines to clean up the Barbary Pirates. Would you prefer that Jefferson had allowed the Barbary Pirates to continue attacking our ships and enslaving the sailors? And Harrison was no isolationist, he even tried to annex (ANNEX !!!) Hawaii.
In Harrison's time we thought we were protected by the Atlantic and the Pacific and we could ignore the rest of the world. Today, terrorists can get on a plane in the Middle East, fly to New York and kill hundreds and thousands, all within a 10 hour period. We should not attempt to control the world, but neither should we retreat from the world.
I was watching a firefight from Afghanistan this morning. Afghanistan still supply's 92% of the worlds heroin. I wouldn't call it a victory there either. Our country has no business helping a country that is still the #1 heroin source in the world and we are helping fund it.
It would be like the US helping fund the late Pueblo Escabar, the Columbian main source for smuggling drugs into this country. Just like we assisted Manuel. Noriega
The technology is there to drop cluster bombs on the poppy fields with unmanned drone planes and not have to sacrifice the life of one military person.
So we have children going to bed hungry every night, gas at nearly 4 dollars a gallon, 500 billion plus spent on a "war" not to mention over 4000 brave men and women killed, cities setting all new records for murder rates and WE are nation building....lead by example?
Don't you know we need the poppy fields that produce the heroin?
It keeps the masses comfortably numb, then we teach pacifism, and raise generations of idiot's who don't have a clue about what it means to be an American.
I agree Wymzie, there are some in government that want everyone stoned out on heroin, that's when they will try to take our guns or hope we hock them for some smack. Not this boy!
