While it is my belief the SFD tried to steal Pocomoke's thunder, they failed miserably. Salisbury had maybe 25 to 30 people participating in watching their parade and opening ceremony, Pocomoke had a thousand people participating in excitement. Now why, on the very same rainy day, was there such a huge difference between these exact same events? Because the Pocomoke Fire Department proudly built their facility for LESS THAN $2,000,000.00!
Between this post and the one above it, it will clearly show you, (seriously) that the Pocomoke Fire Station is as large, (if not larger) than Salisbury's. It's nicer and it cost $8,000,000.00 less than Salisbury's Fire Department.
THAT'S why people are celebrating! See & Gordy should have done things exactly the way Pocomoke did and the crowd would have been just as large. Instead, the Citizens of Salisbury couldn't care less about their multi million dollar toy chest. I happen to agree.

This shows me that very few people are PROUD of the SFDnew quarters. Its pretty sad that all the supporters showed up for the Pocomoke ceremony, but only a hand full showed up for the SFD ceremony. Isnt that a clue?
The actual reason for so few people at Salisbury's is that it was not the official grand opening. It was a small ceremony to celebrate the station becoming operational. Once the Admin, training, and Supply depts. move, there will be an official grand opening.

I don't care what anyone says, the relocation cerimony was advertised. There was NO ONE at the Salisbury Festival yesterday, so that excuse can't be used either. The fact that Mayor Tilghman was there with Comegys tells you they certainly expected a large crowd. It was mainly family members of Firefighters in the Parade, or whatever else you want to call it?
How many celebrations at taxpayers expense are you going to have anyway?????
I'm not arguing that there was minimal turnout, all I'm suggesting is comparing apples to apples. If there is the same poor turnout for the official grand opening then you can compare it to Pocomoke's.

Just open the damn place and move forward because quite frankly there's nothing to celebrate.
Oh, might I suggest to ALL Salisbury Firefighters as well to please take a trip to the new Pocomoke Fire Station and then come back here and tear me a new one for lying or misleading the public, OK?
This won't happen because I'm 100% correct and I strongly encourage all of you to take a good hard look at their Station and then look See & Gordy in the eyes and ask, WTF did you do with the rest of that money?

What expense? The majority of the personnel involved were volunteer. Those that were career were on duty, yes, they were taken out of service for the ceremony, but all calls were to be handled by stations 1 or 2.
Food, beverages, come on now, you know the routine.

I'm more interested in the cost comparison between S & PC -- is it really that much and why such a huge difference???
The difference in costs is astronomical. And yet the building size is about the same, or Pokomoke may even be bigger in size. There sure is a lot wrong with whoever planned this station on the backs of us tax payers!

As much as I bust on the Pocomoke City Government, the fire dept is a different story.

The construction of the new PCVFD firehouse was paid for using professional construction crews.
You can certainly get voulnteers to make the best darned fried chicken and world class slick dumplings on the Eastern Shore... but they can't pour concrete and set trusses for free.
At the grand opening Jerry Barberi unvieled the dontation chart with a goal of $350,000.00 that was over the top with FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND AND GROWING...
From this small town less than one tenth the size of Salisbury.
I had the opportunity to chat with a former City Councilman who was pleased to inform me the only 'grant money' was to demolish the portion of the building that was re-built from the ground up which houses the fire engines.
Everyone in Pocomoke knows there are lots of 'goings on' at City Hall with backroom deals, etc... But the fire company (itself) has always been held sacred and above reproach when it comes to the citys famous self-dealing and political corruption.
Even the crooked politicians in Pocomoke wonder how Salisbury could spend $10 million on its firehouse and think $1,500.00 per square foot is a ripoff they would not attempt... even in Pocomoke...
I just have one question....does the new Pocomoke station have cracks in the floor the way Salisbury's does? LOL!!

the grand celebration will not be final until the bronze statue of tony webster is installed on top of the firehouse. for all of perdues processing plant seagulls to enjoy.
Since the firehouse is being paid for by tax dollars... can i go fry my chicken in that kitchen? The tax payers own it right? Lets all show up and fry some chicken together.
I wouldn't call the fire Department sacred. They are still a "Good Old Boys" network at heart. Just because they are firemen does not put them above everything else. Please do not let your rose colored glasses get in the way of that. They have their issues like many other things in the town.
Not only are there not cracks in the concrete floor, but the floors in the future community center are travertine marble which they plan on refurbishing and keeping as one could never buy a floor of such high quality for for today's dollar.
They Pocomoke Boy's did an incredible job and they should be commended as such. Not only did they make a beautiful new building, but they brought life back into an area of town that had seen better days. They blew a breath of life into this part of town and they will be greatly missed from ours.
