Update On The Niblett Murder In Pocomoke

Everyone knows by now that the WCBI had arrested Charles Robert Phillips for the alleged murder of William ‘Nib’ Niblett.

Here's what most did not know though. Charles Phillips had been serving 30 days in jail for 2nd degree assault and violation of probation. He had just been released 2 days before the murder, went and checked in with his Parole Officer the following day and then allegedly killed Mr. Niblett the day after he checked in with his Parole Officer. Two days later he went to check in with his Parole Officer again.

I'm told Phillips had done work in the past for Niblett and (from what I hear) he was somewhat of a difficult man to deal with. Niblett & Phillips got into an argument in which Phillips allegedly punched him and then allegedly stabbed him.

Phillips has quite a record with a criminal past.

Sorry to say but Mr. Phillips does not play well with others. He was not a major problem while in the Wicomico County Detention Center, he did cause some problems.

Mr. Niblett will be missed. He was a friend to all, helped all who asked and only asked to be treated fairly.

I'm always horrified to hear about people who commit violent crimes right after being released from jail for having previously commited a violent crime. Is there a simple answer? No. But until we can ensure that someone is not going to leave jail and hurt or kill someone, they should stay there. Apparently he was known for being a bad guy. How did he get out? Who decided he was safe?

Nib plumbed where no others would plumb. He was a good man, an excellent plumber and big soft heart.
He could pick and choose the jobs that we do or wouldn't do, but if he knew that no one else would be able to do it he would.

I own an old house and he was one good plumber.

He will be very very missed.

You don't have rap sheet two pages long and all with criminal charges, and be a nice guy.

So he went from Wicomico Detention Center to Worcester County Jail. Maybe THOSE folks will be more likely to put him somewhere so he can't come out and hurt someone else. We can only hope.

Here's a (rhetorical?) question....
since this murder took place outside the town limits of Pocomoke, was it solved so quickly because the town police DIDN'T have jurisdiction? I don't live in that area, but read both the town councilmans plea for outside assistance and the somewhat snotty reply from the mayor.

Well everyone I know this guy personally. I tried my best to tell others he was dangerous. Not only was he dangerous but him and my exwife had become dangerous together. She is in wicomico county detention center for stabbing someone last July. Oh and by the way he was with her but he had his charges dropped. Then the two of them decided to beat another man with a shovel in October. Both of them had them charges put on step. His being just one day before the murder. Before any of this I called everyone. I even tried repeatedally to have restraining order put on them to stay away from my kids. All I was ever told was I don't have enough evidence. Over and over again Custody was given to them. While I knew that he was violent, while me an my children knew he was violent others continued to give him a million chances. I feel really bad for this mans family. I feel really frustrated with the judicial system. While I feel that the responsibility lies in charles philips himself, I still feel that some action should be taken against some involved in Wicomico County.
