Once again Salisbury News will break another story no one else has. Let's talk about the 4th of July Celebration.
It turns out, Clearchannel will be sponsoring a FREE 4th of July extravaganza at the Shorebirds Stadium this year.
All they'll require is that everyone go to specific locations to pick up your tickets. Fair enough, it spreads the love and I'm all about that. LOL
County Executive Rick Pollitt has once again delivered on his word and has worked out a deal with Clearchannel and again my hat is tipped to this very fine company for recognizing this community event and the importance of such.
The local Salisbury Jaycees were expected to participate but were a "no show" amongst the group that met yesterday over this issue. They were fully expected to be there and they were not.

Thank you for your continued covereage of the fireworks issue. I too tip my hat to Mr. Pollitt and ClearChannel for making the show a reality this year.
However, I do want to clarify one statement in your posting. While the Jaycees were invited to yesterday's meeting, county officials were notified that there was a strong possibility our organization would not be represented due to the time of day the meeting was held. It's not often easy for our members to attend meetings during the work day. No one should have "fully expected" Jaycees attendance; indeed, they were told otherwise.
Having said that, the Jaycees fully support this endeavor and have told Mr. Pollitt that we will certainly offer any assistance he may need.

Joe, can you get these answers:
How much did Clear Channel agree to pay?
What happened to all of the other last minute heroes of 2007, including your generous offer?
Are the Shorebirds guaranteed to get thousands of dollars for this event, rain or shine, work or none? Are they willing to provide a rain date, if necessary? If what I heard was correct, last year they had a guaranteed profit of thousands, plus they added about 30% onto the price of every ticket through service charges.
How about the Mackes empire - what will they be making out of the concession sales?
Will the Sheriff's Department want overtime pay for their officers this year? If so, who's footing the bill?
If what I understand is correct, all of these financial requirements were being asked of a small group of young people, who wanted to improve our community.
At least the big powers involved in this event can fight it out amongst themselves. It seems that last year, everybody was more interested in lining their own pockets than celebrating the anniversary of the greatest nation on earth.
