COUNTY EXECUTIVE ANNOUNCES CHRISTMAS EVE HOLIDAY

County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr. has announced that Monday, December 24th, will be a holiday for county workers. In making the announcement, Pollitt said, “I am pleased to reward our hard-working county employees with an extra day off at this time of year when it’s so important to be with family.”

Mr. Pollitt said that he consulted with the Wicomico County Council about the extra holiday.

If you think about it, it makes good sense. People leave on Fri. Buidings are cooled and empty. It makes no sense to heat the buildings up for 1 day then shut them down again. It actually burns more energy

I agree watchfuleye, I don't have a problem with it at all. Can't get enough family time this time of year.

Give them the day off if they want it, but don't pay them for it. These county, or all munipal workers for that matter get enough as it is, and it is me paying for it. And the heat issue???? Don't for one minute think that these offices don't already have automatic thermostats that will be heating them on Christmas eve as well as Christmas. Stop using MY tax dollars to give muni workers more benefits, so that at budget time I can hear them cry how they didn't get their raise they wanted.

Good for him! I think it is wonderful that at this time of the year they can get off the extra day. It will save the County quite a bit of money by not heating the buildings up on Monday. I noticed the Delaware governor declared that last week.

DUH.....Most of the county employees already have the day off! What did he do? Couple more bucks in the pocket, couple more votes (maybe) Is Barrie F'n Tilghman going to follow? You tell me.

Yeah, let's do what everybody else does, it works!

Good for Rick Pollitt. Family is obviously more important to him than it is to others. What would anyone need on Monday that they can't get done on Wednesday when they reopen?

Don't forget the county workers that still have to work

The county workers need not thank Pollitt they need to thank the private sector employees who will be working on Christmas eve.But when will the public sector realize that they are sucking the private sector dry and that we can no longer afford their 8% pay raises and their liberal leave time.

Im not sure what planet you are from, but "regular" county employees (not teachers or sheriffs) usually receive a pay raise somewhere around 3%. Part of the reason the day was given off is that there were so many people taking off anyway that it just makes sense to not open for business as usual to avoid energy costs. If it boiled down to having a choice between a pay raise and more time off, I would certainly choose the pay raise, however, the county is strapped, and offering an extra vacation day doesn't really cost them anything.

You must not be working in Wicomico Co. in 2006 all county employees got a 8% raise and in 2007 they got a 6% raise plus a select few of Pollitts close employee friends got an extra 2%!!!

How would Pollitt know a hard working employee? Has'nt he worked in the public sector all his life.People like Mr.Politt who have lost touch with reality and have never had to meet the demands placed on small business owners and corporations to meet their payrolls, cut overhead to make money to care for their families and employees.

Look, jackass, it's a good idea. Yes, there are private sector people working on Christmas Eve. I've done it, and almost always for additional pay. MOST places close early on Christmas Eve, and pay their employees for a full day's work. In the world you live in, state and local employees shouldn't have Black Friday off, right? Let me ask, do YOU work in the private sector or are you a State Employee pissed you don't have Christmas Eve off so you can start you Egg Nog and Brandy bender 8 hours sooner?

By the way, I think your name is Ebeneezer Scrooge. Hope you enjoy the visit by Marley and the 3 ghosts of Christmas.
