Not only is this building mainly a garage, (meaning very inexpensive to build) but they're lining the majority of the exterior with high maintenance sheet metal that will have to be replaced.
This material is being used on many homes to replace roofs and they say you can expect about a 20 year life on it. What gets me is, for $10,000,000.00, wouldn't you think the entire thing would be solid brick throughout. Again, we're talking about a $10,000,000.00 warehouse!
I think it's time I go back into posting some comparable Fire Stations around the Country and show you what they're getting for the money. Before you know it, the Fire Department will be confronting the City Council with needing to replace this cheesy material and instead of building a no or low maintenance end product, they're using crap material at the most expensive rate in the Country.
Only in Salisbury! This has NOTHING to do with the Fire Men & Women. This has everything to do with See, Gordy and the Mayor.

I'm glad you recognized the metal on the walls and not just the roof. I didn't mention that but obviously the pictures showed what I meant. I would have to agree with you. That would have made a fir better exterior and they would only have to paint it after time. Considering they used block walls throughout, poking holes in those walls to mount the metal onto wood strips will also cause problems down the road. Like I said, it's very cheesy and would make anyone wonder where that $10,000,000.00 actually went?
I don't know the exact price but pocomoke spent between 1 Million to 2 Millon on their fire house and its just as nice. I'd have to say its either bigger or close to the same size. Explain why Pocomoke was able to do it for cheaper, and why Pocomoke used all local contractors why Salisury had quiet of few out of town contractors and theres no way it was based on lowest bid with a price tag like that.
Don't forget the cost of the perfectly good fire truck and ambulance they destroyed to place on the second floor for "training."
ROTFLMAO. Oh, don't forget the cost of dismantling those pieces and the cost of the crane company and its operator.
I guess in a couple of years when it is time to replace that cheesy sheet metal will be the time to get rid of the now junk ambulance and fire truck. Well now look at that thought. They are smarter than you think. A perfect oportunity to get rid of the junk and they planned ahead of time. NOT!!!

For $10mil you would have thought that they could get a nice piece of architectural mesh as an accent. It's made in Cambridge, and sold all over the world!
perfectly good ambulance? that was the old dive unit which was a peice of shit when they cut it up. the funny thing is as a trainging aid neither peice is what they are using now so these guys and gals will be training on one thing and working with another. why bother doing it at all?

It was an ambulance and the name was changed to dive unit. It had workable parts and low mileage. It could have benifited someone. It could have benifited the tax payers by putting that money back in the coffers.
Why couldn't they have donated it to a needy company?

The old dive unit that is being used as a training prop for ems was a piece of shit and was easily 20 yrs old. That unit was maintenance nightmare and majority of the electrical system didn't work. The unit wasn's worth anything when it was converted into a dive unit. No company could have benefited from this unit. Do some research before you start bashing the leaders of department. As far as the Engine used for training the motor in it blew up months prior to the arrival of the new units that were purchased. The cab and hose bed will be used for drivers training and basic hoseload training. So once again due your research before you bashing.

It looks like a jail, too. Ugly as hell, expensive, built on a swamp, overpriced land, someone got VERY rich off the deal, maybe a couple of someboies. Must be good to have friends in high (low) places, or to be a FOB.
