Alonzo Gerard Johnson, 48 yoa, of Salisbury was arrested for armed robbery, theft more than $500, use of handgun during commission of a violent crime, handgun in vehicle, handgun on person, possession of a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, conceal dangerous weapon, 1st & 2nd degree assault and reckless endangerment. Officers from the Salisbury Police Department responded to the Food Lion Store located on Snow Hill Road for a reported armed robbery. Investigation revealed that Johnson had entered the Food Lion and approached a cashier in one of the check out lines. Johnson showed the cashier a handgun and demanded that the cashier empty her cash drawer. Johnson fled the store with an undetermined amount of U.S. currency in a pickup truck. A description of Johnson and the vehicle he was operating was broadcasted. The vehicle was located several minutes later by an officer on patrol. Upon seeing the officer, Johnson then fled at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, Johnson reached speeds that nearly made him lose control of the vehicle. In addition, Johnson attempted to elude police by driving westbound in the eastbound traffic of US Route 50. Johnson also collided with several vehicles to include a marked Maryland State Police car. Johnson was able to flee on foot from the scene of another accident. Johnson was captured after a brief foot chase. Johnson was released to the custody of Central Booking.
