REPORT: Seattle Wage Hike Off To ‘Pretty Bad Start,’ Kills 700 Jobs
In its report, the American Enterprise Institute looked at restaurant job growth in both Seattle and the rest of Washington. The state itself has gained 5,800 industry jobs since January. Seattle, however, lost 700 jobs in the same time. The state minimum wage is $9.47. Back in June Seattle passed its own minimum wage of $15 an hour. The city ordinance is designed to phase in over the course of several years. It will reach $15 an hour by 2017 for most employers.
“One likely cause of the stagnation and decline of Seattle area restaurant jobs this year is the increase in the city’s minimum wage,” the report speculated. “It looks like the Seattle minimum wage hike is getting off to a pretty bad start. Especially considering that restaurant employment in the rest of the state is booming, and nearly 6,000 more restaurant workers are employed today than in January.”

Maryland State Trooper involved in fatal shooting at Frederick gas station
The shooting took place around 8:45 a.m. at the Sheetz gas off East Patrick Street when an on-duty trooper attempted to stop the man from leaving the station, according to MSP spokesman Greg Shipley.
Shipley said MSP believes the man deliberately rammed a responding Frederick Police officer's car before he was fired upon by another trooper from MSP's aviation command.
Emergency responders attempted CPR on the man in the parking lot outside the gas station before covering his body and blocking the scene with tarps.

Parkside High School and Wicomico County Public Schools are saddened by the passing on Sunday evening of Cameron Dashiell, 16, a student in his third year at Parkside High School. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends at this very difficult time.
The Wicomico County Bureau of Investigation is investigating the circumstances of his death.
Parkside High staff members were informed of Cameron’s death this morning, and extra personnel are at Parkside today to provide support to students and staff. Support staff are also available at James M. Bennett High, where a number of Cameron’s former classmates attend.
Teachers will share the news with students, and a moment of silence will take place at the end of 6th period.

Seven in 10 Republican and Republican-leaning registered voters say Trump could win in November 2016 if he is nominated, and that's the most who say so of any candidate. By comparison, 6 in 10 say the same for retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who, like Trump, has tapped into the powerful wave of antiestablishment anger defining the early phases of the 2016 contest.
"It's the lifelong establishment politicians on both sides that rub me the wrong way," said registered Republican Joe Selig, a 60-year-old carpenter from Vallejo, California. "I think Trump is more electable. He's strong. We need strength these days."
Trump and Carson are considered among the least electable general election candidates by the Republican Party's professionals, those who are in the business of helping candidates run campaigns and win elections.
Experienced political strategists note that winning a general election and winning the Republican nomination are often very different tasks. The GOP's most conservative voters — a group that is older and whiter than the nation as a whole — wield extraordinary influence in picking the nominee. Independents, moderate voters and minorities are far more important in general elections that draw many more people to the polls.

Is that candy or Ecstasy? Halloween warnings spook parents
Police in Jackson, Mississippi, posted about it on their Facebook page, and the warning went viral.
"If your kids get these for Halloween candy, they ARE NOT CANDY," the post said. "They are the new shapes of Ecstasy and can kill kids through overdoses!!!"
The photo showed Ecstasy tablets shaped like dominoes, skulls and Superman's shield, and urged parents, "When it doubt, throw it out."

This Maryland company just got into the business of cloning kittens
That’s right. Intrexon (NYSE: XON) acquired a company last year called ViaGen LC that recently announced it successfully delivered two litters of healthy cloned kittens for the first time. The Texas-based company specializes in cloning animals for genetic preservation in the livestock and equine industries.
Intrexon convinced ViaGen to pursue the companion animal market, said ViaGen CEO Blake Russell. ViaGen will officially launch that consumer service in January.
“I think the market is quite large,” Russell said.

‘Operation You’re Next’ aims to round up Brunswick County heroin dealers
Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram has sent a clear message to heroin dealers in the area: “You’re next.”
The law enforcement agency’s latest operation of the same name is aiming to take down those who distribute the highly addictive, often fatal drug in an effort to tackle what Ingram describes as a regional epidemic.
During a press conference Friday, Ingram displayed the photos of 12 such alleged dealers who have already been charged. Another seven, he said, have warrants for their arrests. In all, he said the sheriff’s office is targeting 80 residents who have already been investigated and identified as dealers.
“If you are involved in dealing heroin in this county, you are next to be arrested and held accountable,” Ingram said. “With dealers, we’re locking every single one of them up, without question.”
Assistant District Attorney Chris Thomas said those convicted of trafficking will receive the minimum prison sentence for the crime–ranging from 70 to 290 months, depending on the amount of heroin they possess–regardless of past criminal records.

Government Implements Illegal “Gag Order” On National Weather Service And NOAA Employees
The power structure is beginning to panic as the public wakes up to the criminal climate engineering insanity. The growing police state is completely out of control and becoming unimaginably blatant with their actions. In recent weeks Washington has placed “gag orders” on the following agency employees, “The National Weather Service”, the “National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration”, and the “US Department of Commerce”. This is a massive red flag that should trigger alarm bells everywhere.

“Republican” presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has disavowed the work of nine super-PACs supporting his bid for the White House – and demanded they return all of the money they’ve raised on his behalf.
He also challenged every other presidential candidate to do the same … expressly rebuking “the dark money, donor class perpetuating a broken Washington, D.C.”
Who is he referring to? These people.
“I am self-funding my campaign and therefore I will not be controlled by the donors, special interests and lobbyists who have corrupted our politics and politicians for far too long,” Trump said. “I have disavowed all Super PAC’s, requested the return of all donations made to said PAC’s, and I am calling on all Presidential candidates to do the same. The character of our country is only as strong as our leaders – the only special interest I am beholden to is the American people and together we will Make America Great Again!”

Congressman Andy Harris Appointed to Select Investigative Panel
-Energy and Commerce Committee Panel to Investigate Abortion Practices-
WASHINTON, DC: Congressman Andy Harris, M.D., (MD-01) was appointed by Speaker Boehner to the Select Investigative Panel of the Committee on Energy and Commerce. Earlier this year, videos were uncovered showing employees of the largest abortion provider in the country discussing the techniques and practices used to harvest and sell fetal organs. Ongoing investigations at three House committees unveiled the necessity for a select panel. The House passed H.Res. 461, “Establishing a Select Investigative Panel of the Committee on Energy and Commerce,” on October 7, 2015.
Congressman Harris’ medical and research background uniquely qualifies him to serve on the committee. For almost three decades, Dr. Harris cared for patients as an obstetric anesthesiologist at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Hospital. As an obstetric anesthesiologist, he cared for women and their babies during birth. In addition, while on the faculty at Johns Hopkins, he performed medical research funded by the National Institutes of Health. His research focused on fetal cerebral blood flow and was performed on sheep in utero. This professional experience will allow him to provide a unique perspective on the process used by big abortion providers to harvest organs and the impact on the mother and baby.
Congressman Harris released the following statement on being appointed to this committee:
“It is an honor to be asked to serve on the select panel that will investigate the deeply disturbing activities that have been ongoing at abortion providers. As an obstetric anesthesiologist, it is particularly troubling for me to have learned that abortion providers alter the abortion procedure itself, in a way that prolongs the procedure and introduces additional risk, to harvest the desired fetal organs. This potentially places the woman at a higher risk for complications not only during the abortion procedure itself, but in future pregnancies as well.
“As a pro-life father of five, I am repulsed not only by the discussion itself, but also with the utter disregard these videos show for the value and dignity of preborn human life. A comprehensive investigation is necessary to learn the truth about the possibly illegal activities carried out by taxpayer-funded organizations. I look forward to playing a part in this vital investigation.”
In announcing the committee members, Speaker Boehner said:
“Recent videos exposing the abortion-for-baby parts business have shocked the nation, and demanded action. At my request, three House committees have been investigating the abortion business, but we still don’t have the full truth. Chairman Blackburn and our members will have the resources and the subpoena power to get to the bottom of these horrific practices, and build on our work to protect the sanctity of all human life.”
The panel will consist of 8 Republicans and 6 Democrats. Speaker Boehner announced that Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn (TN-07) will chair the panel. Including Congressman Harris, other members appointed to the panel are Congresswoman Diane Black (TN-06), Congresswoman Vicki Hartzler (MO-04), Congresswoman Mia Love (UT-04), Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16), Congressman Larry Buschon, M.D., (IN-08), and Sean Duffy (WI-07).

We could all use a little help sometimes. And we all know that the best way to get help is to ask.
Of course it’s important to ask the right person. When I managed an accounting firm I had people ask me questions about taxes. When I left there to manage a dental practice I had people ask me questions about root canals. Great examples of asking the wrong person -- because while I was a highly innovative and successful manager and marketer, I would have been a terrible tax accountant or dentist.
But more than asking the right person, it’s important to develop the right relationship with that person before, and after, you seek their help. Most of my clients are in the business of providing professional services, many of them in an advisory role. So they get asked for their time and expertise a lot. Of course, when you coach, speak or write for business publications as I do, you get asked for help in every way imaginable.
There’s really only one secret to getting people to help you – you have to help them feel good about helping you.
It really is that simple. We all make decisions based on what makes us feel good, or at least “less bad.” You might be able to get someone to help you by using guilt. If their guilt avoidance is high, helping you will feel less bad than feeling guilty for saying no. But that won’t work on everyone, and it won’t work on anyone for every long. Besides, it just isn’t nice and I’m betting you are a nice person.
So let’s look at three really basic ways to make people feel good about helping you so that they’ll choose to do it again and again.

She Knew All Along
Thanks to Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi testimony on Thursday, we now understand why the former secretary of state never wanted anyone to see her emails and why the State Department sat on documents. Turns out those emails and papers show that the Obama administration deliberately misled the nation about the deadly events in Libya on Sept. 11, 2012.
Don’t forget how we came to this point. Mrs. Clinton complained in her testimony on Capitol Hill that past Congresses had never made the overseas deaths of U.S. officials a “partisan” issue. That’s because those past deaths had never inspired an administration to concoct a wild excuse for their occurrence, in an apparent attempt to avoid blame for a terror attack in a presidential re-election year.
The early hints that this is exactly what happened after the murder of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans cast doubt on every White House-issued “fact” about the fiasco and led to the establishment of Rep. Trey Gowdy’s select committee.

You know, I'm sick and tired of these Liberals acting and comparing Salisbury to places like Baltimore, Rockville and D.C.. Yeah, people Downtown are walking around like zombies, so lost, they need HELP finding whatever it is they're looking for. Downtown is so BIG and confusing, we need people down there to help you get around.
I was in Washington D.C. recently and did a walking tour all over Downtown. Funny, I never once saw people walking around offering to help people find their way. Is Salisbury as big as D.C.?

If it were ME, I'd create a couple kiosk centers with a streaming video that tells you everything you need to know about what's Downtown, what are the upcoming events and guess what, how about even placing a PANIC button with those bright blue LED lights like you see at SU and WORWIC. You already have two kiosk locations with power already there. One is in front of the GOB and the other is next to the fountain on the Plaza.

We just received another 6x9" glossy postcard telling us to vote for Jack Heath in the upcoming Salisbury city election. The postcard, the second in my mailbox in three days, was sent by the Coastal Association of Realtors and Maryland Realtors for Political Action, whoever they might be. It was sent from from Hunt Valley, Maryland, a few miles north of Baltimore.
I've been watching Mr. Heath's performance for the last year on PAC14 and have listened to him speak at two of the forums recently held. I was expecting a lot better from him. I'm terribly unimpressed by what he has to say and what he promises to do for the city. Empty promises, in my book, and nothing at all that speaks to the real needs of the citizens.
I'm not at all impressed, either, by his thirty years in a volunteer fire department (Pittsville, Parsonsburg?) or his having been a CEO of a couple of companies. What he's done in council over the past year for everybody to see is really nothing. He's just sat there and voted and talked about "When I was a CEO.... blah, blah, blah."
But back to the mailings. Who in his right mind would vote for somebody supported to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars spent by a small group of people (real estate), funded by a huge out-of-town organization? And, come to think of it, local real estate people are great friends and business partners of the landlords who own over 70% of the housing here and charge ridiculous rents for most of it. They're certainly not in it for making Salisbury a better place to live, only cashing in on it. Heath's platform is weak, and they know it, but they want that control, so they inject a ton of cash to buy a lot of advertising that isn't accountable by city campaign regulations, money that overwhelms that raised in contributions to candidates by local people and businesses.
To remind people, these are the same bunch who brought Salisbury the Dream Team in the early 2000's, led by Mike Dunn, the worst council and council president that we have ever had. Please, let's not go back there.
My vote and my wife's are definitely NOT going to Jack Heath. If he's accepting and not actively rejecting help from organizations as suspect as realtors' associations, he's not my pick for city council. Or for any other public office, for that matter.
I hope that you'll share this with your readers, because it's just wrong that outside parties like these get involved in local politics, and it's doubly wrong to hand over the city council to real estate people and landlords.
