I didn't really have high hopes that the process of melting old tires and removing the belts would work. The rubber derived from that process was used for all sorts of things such as blending with paving materials to increase expansion capacity due to cold and heat, thus eliminating road cracking and potholes. It was also mixed with the mulch around playground equipment to reduce impact when children fell off of playground equipment, etc. The process as I understand was just too expensive to be viable.
So, the "recycling" fee that everyone pays when they change tires, is just a scam??? They just throw them on the pile add the money to their profit line??? Then later, the taxpayers (we, the people) get to pick up the tab for the cleanup??? Its a great country. Keep cheering.
Recycling has been the biggest joke in the world for at least 20 years. When I was in college, I did a study of recycling and found that only about 2% of materials "Recycled" actually get reused. After people separate and wash "recyclables" 98% get tossed into the dump!

Mulch not a good idea to may cancer causing elements in the process. Recycle them should be the law
"RECYCLE" means to re-use, not to stockpile...
