A New Jersey councilwoman has been accused of beating her husband over the head with a broomstick and a cookbook.
Police were called to the Highland Park home of Susan Welkovits, 57, on Friday.
She had allegedly bitten her husband on the arm, leaving him with 'visible signs of abuse', according to a police report obtained by NJ.com.
He refused treatment for his injuries when officers arrived, the report said. There were children present at the time of the incident.
Welkovits, who was appointed to the Highland Park borough council in January 2012, is facing charges for simple assault and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes.
