Seaford Harley Davidson To Close & Reopen In Salisbury

Rommel Harley Davidson will relocate to the old Gander Mountain location in Salisbury, Maryland. No sales tax to 6% sales tax, makes sense to me, NOT!
Didn't we all witness this very same thing happen in Berlin not that long ago!

Check with your buddy Jake Day , I'm sure a whole lot of perks involved at this location . ( free rent , tax free , free utilities all from your dollar)

Anonymous said...

Um, Jake nor the city owns the property to offer free rent and they certainly do not own the utility companies. You should expect the new tenant will be paying for those things.

True but many non taxes offers are done by Salisbury for stores but I do not know how to view those deals as they are usually done in private sessions then agreements drawn up by counsel

Anonymous said...

Not only is the city not giving them anything - the city doesn’t have to. These things don’t need any government involvement. I brought a much larger business here 2 years ago and all they do is come to the ribbon cutting and give us approval for a sign. Not that I’m not appreciative or whatever but these conspiracies about backroom deals are just funny. There’s no need for a back room. Just makes economic sense to open stores in this town. And government really doesn’t get involved.

Harley dealers are closing all over the country. This is a stupid move. As was letting Tracy go a few years back.
What ever happened to the plan to move to the 50/13 interchange? Bunch of clowns.

who buys harley's anymore? just a bunch of low iq individuals who dress up and pretend like they are badasses! spend your time mentoring kids visiting folks who can't get out. naw I'll just ride around and do nothing all day!

I WILL BE BOYCOTTING HARLEY AS TO THERE STANCE ON BUILDING OVERSEAS.

New business coming to Salisbury. Not sure why this is anything but great news.

Anonymous said...

Is there sales tax if bike will be tagged in Delaware? Some time ago when I lived in PA I bought a car in Maryland and only paid sales tax to PA when registering. No sales tax paid to Maryland.

Anonymous said...

we remember how Harley sold out America.....#BOYCOTTHARLEY.

Anonymous said...

Moving a business from Delaware to Maryland doesn't make sense.

Anonymous said...

if you lived in md you paid the tax anyhow

I love ready comments from idiots who have never run a business nor have a clue what a business plan is. If this Harley business in Gander in Salisbury folds, I wonder if 6:45 or 5:22 realize their loss will be nil along with their expert comments. Blowing out someone else's candle does not make yours shine any brighter."

You're a moron. If a maryland resident bought a bike in Seaford, he would still pay 6%tax!

Anonymous said...

closer to higher population.

they make more money on the clothes than on the bikes

Anonymous said...

Tracy was let go because she can't leave other women's husbands alone .

Anonymous said...

Incredibly stupid idea. More are going to just order online. They won't last in that location but a few years.

Anonymous said...

Believe me I don't think the Rommel's are worried about the 6% sales tax. Another point I recently purchased a smart TV. Thinking it would be cheaper in Dover, not $27.00 higher. Tax free Delaware not worth it!

At 6:45AM. Um,Gander Mountain store is on RT.13 at the RT.50 bypass

Anonymous said...

Kinda feel like opening in Delmar, DE would be more beneficial for everyone - well, if they want this market.

Anonymous said...

Harley Davidson our overpriced foreign made JUNK. For the rubs of society.
Rich
Urban
Biker

LMAO

Look at me. Overweight and over the hill.

Anonymous said...

Yeah,I'm not sure if this is a good business move.Seaford Harley is known all over the country. But, sometimes risk works out.

Anonymous said...

Harley as a brand is sinking, just look at the graybeards who ride the bikes. The dealers that are surviving are the ones that sell and service 4 wheelers and other off rode stuff. The state passed a law last year that motorcycle dealers could open on Sundays ( thanks Carl) next the auto dealerships will want the same. Give Rommel's a c year and they will be selling kayaks and woodstoves at this location.

Anonymous said...

Maryland residents still have to pay 6% regardless of where they BUY the vehicle. So, if Rommel can find a better place with better demographics with more customers and maybe low rent, it's a no-brainier.
And with good signage, you will see it from both Rt 13 AND the Rt 50 bypass.
So, sales tax has nothing to do with the location for motor vehicles.

Anonymous said...

But now they can sell bikes on Sunday in Wicomico County, yay!

Now if they will allow alcohol sales on Sunday we will be set.

Anonymous said...

That gander building is huge. I've never seen a Harley dealer of that size

Anonymous said...

Great move.....they wanted the square footage not just for motorcycles but to expand clothing and parts departments! They still have a Delaware business if taxes bother you go to Smyrna. If it comes back to Maryland you will pay the taxes anyway. Great for Salisbury, can’t wait for the move!

Anonymous said...

For all of your information , Mr. Jake Day can pay for all expenses at this location , he can also pay the utilities and tax incentives . Ignorance is bliss.

Anonymous said...

Delaware has no sales tax but a gross receipts tax on business which is ultimately an sales tax that the business pays and just adds the costs on to the price within there business. Gross Receipts Taxes are known to be regressive and a pain in the ass.

Anonymous said...

9:38. You haven’t seen many Harley dealerships have you? I’ve seen them all over the Country!

Anonymous said...

"No sales tax to 6% sales tax, makes sense to me, NOT!"

Of course it doesn't make sense to you, youre a failed businessman lol.

Lol Exactly, best comment of the year

Hi Mr and Mrs Rommel. You might be surprised at the business I ran.

Anonymous said...

I wish she wouldn't have left my wife's husband alone. :)

They now build in India.
No thanks, I'll keep my 2003 Honda
That I bought new and is looks and
rides that way!

Rommel absolutely took a beating buying all the H-D dealers from Annapolis to Wilmington. Harley Davidson is down the tubes again. In saying that I'm sure Rommel has more than made up for it through his electrical and mechanical businesses he bought up

Anonymous said...

In Delaware you pay 4.25% of purchase price when you register vehicle. If you lived in Maryland and bought in Delaware you would still pay 6% when you registered in MD. Not a huge difference for them to move

Anonymous said...

I worked for them when they moved from W OC to Berlin and still tried to call themselves OC Harley-Davidson, then I watched them threaten lawsuits on boardwalk vendors for trademark infringement for selling OC HD shirts while they were no longer in OC. I remember the owner (forgot her name... Bennit?) tell me they made most of their money from T-shirt sales yet moved to Berlin to sell bikes to people on vacation. I was just a dumb college kid but knew basic business principles enough to know they were going to fail. I can’t imagine the rent being cheaper.

Anonymous said...

David is a smart man and fairly conservative with business plans. This will be a good move for him. If it does not work i am sure he has a backup plan.

Anonymous said...

Wicomico has Corp personal property tax, inventory tax and the big one coming a tax to shore up the 1billion dollar state pension shortfall.

Anonymous said...

Maybe he has a plan to buy the building. I do know having run a small business that paying rent is the death of a lot of small businesses. On both small businesses I owned I bought the property and that was a really good move. Landlords have a way of becoming silent partners that bleed a business to death.

Anonymous said...

Wicomico Inventory Tax has already been phased out.

Anonymous said...

Is the bag they gave you to put over your head while riding that rice burner still look like new 5:33

Anonymous said...

Don’t know what market analysis told the Rommels this was a stellar move. All the jobs in Salisbury affording people to buy $30K motorcycles left long ago. Now days, baristas are hardly the demographic for such an extravagant purchase. Surprised Salisbury has been able to maintain a Mercedes dealership for as long as it has. Guess people would rather go into debt for a vehicle than a home; God knows it retains it value more than Salisbury’s real estate.

The company are TRAITORS to America.

Said the lady scorned...

Anonymous said...

Looks like you boycotted English class as well. It’s “their stance”. “Their” is possessive.

Anonymous said...

Riding a Harley is like having sex with a fat chick....it’s ok as long as your friends don’t see you.

Anonymous said...

I get a kick out of some comments. Firing Tracey, running husband's. lol
I purchased a new Road King from Tracey and was sorry to see he leave. She was pleasant and professional to this gray hair. The reason my hair had changed was during my days of riding when I wore a younger mans clothes, my budget only worked out to purchase a rice burner. When you work many years and get out of mortgages, loans, etc. it is a better time to make the step to a Harley. although I enjoyed the rice burners in my youth.
Question, how did Rommel let Tracey go when she was employed by Bruce Bennett?
Sorry to mention this nice lady because the post is not about her. Hope she is well.

Is she hot? Asking for a friend

Anonymous said...

Tax does not make sense. And as for we paid tax anyhow you are wrong We paid when we bought a bike correct but not the accessories duh. Will be shopping for anything Harley onmline. I wonder how the city and county will react to the parties that were held there. NOT
Traffic will be a nightmare. If there fees go up to match the taxes will take my bike to a local shop. Bad move all the way around

His backup plan is to close it like the others he ran into the ground.

It is on merchandise 0 tax

8:34 don’t you wish you could afford one? I know it’s obvious in your post, lol.

She's not bad looking. She's been checking me out for 10 years now and she sent me a friend request on FB so I will finally make a move on her.

5:10 sure you did was it called the anonymous store?

Anonymous said...

The state is going to give them big bucks. Look at Maryland One Credit for new business.

Look it up and see all the perks taxpayers are paying outsiders to set up shop.

Anonymous said...

!:23 Yes, smoking.

Anonymous said...

11:26...it’s called reading and COMPREHENSION. If you understood that, you would see that the comment was written by the HUSBAND. He is saying that he wished Tracey hadn’t left HIM alone. HE is is wife’s husband. Shew...this isn’t that hard. It’s ridiculous to have to explain comments to adults.

Anonymous said...

Dave T: I wish them luck both for the welfare of the business and the local community. And yes, it does seem like deja vu.

Anonymous said...

Order online anyway. So tired of this “support local” BS. If “local” wouldn’t price gouge I would.

Anonymous said...

So is your president....but that’s ok?

Who says you can't buy alcohol on Sunday?
