Officer Mike McDermott Announces His Retirement

I began my law enforcement career in November of 1981. Today, having served the citizens of Worcester County for over 30 years, I am ending my tour of duty which began here on July 1st, 1988. I have had the pleasure of serving with some of the best people under some of the worst circumstances during my career. I want to thank my wife, Laura, and my children, Nate and Amanda, for always being supportive and understanding when duty called. I have missed birthdays, holidays, and even anniversaries because I raised my right hand and swore an oath. I have had the honor of leading, mentoring, and motivating men and women in our profession and I like to think it made a difference. From the STAR Team, to the Firearm's Training Center, to the County Bureau of Investigation, to my tenure as Chief for the Town of Snow Hill, my desire for professional law enforcement for Worcester County has always been my guide. To my family and friends who always had my back, "thank you" from the bottom of my heart for helping me endure. I am looking forward to the next chapter of leadership that is opening up before me where my service will continue and my smile will be a little broader. To my brothers and sisters in harms way, always remember: "STAY ALERT...STAY ALIVE!"

Yeah appears to be a nice guy but there is shady stuff about him that many people know about....

I still think he should run on the November ballot if it's possible. It's not fair to us voters to have to settle on who we believe is not the best choice for sheriff.

McDermott is a victim of the system and I don't blame him to quit. Carrozza will never beat Mathias and if Mike had filed against him then more than likely he'd be the victor.

Sometimes a man can be destined for a job and as a result he performs it well. He excelled in the House and would have shown the same in the Senate.

I'd like to see him again take on the Dims and this time be elected. Maybe this round the Republicans will get off their dead asses and put a candidate forward that could win and not waste the chance at the seat. They're behind the times and have archaic ideas that never pan out.

Carrozza if she did win, would be devoured whole by Miller and Busch and all the bright Elephants in Worcester Co. should have realized that and the fact the Eastern Shore is Maryland's stepchild and as a result the 'playground to the East (O.C.)'is the only entity that can cry and get what they want. If there's not a fighter in that seat like McDermott then any requests from a pacifist like Carrozza is effectually extinguished by the Western Shore 'Hogs)!

Folks instead of voting numbers, vote smart. ....Skeptical 1
