Some Local Students Expected To Participate In National School Walkout

SNOW HILL – Local students are expected to join their peers throughout the country in a national school walkout planned for Wednesday morning.

A month after the tragic school shooting in Parkland, Florida, a 17-minute national walkout set to take place at 10 a.m. on March 14 will honor those killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Students at Stephen Decatur High School are among those expected to participate in a walkout.

“We are aware of students at our high schools that have expressed a desire to participate in the National School Walkout,” said Carrie Sterrs, coordinator of public relations and special programs at Worcester County Public Schools. “As a county, we are not issuing a statement on the walkout; however, our high school principals have been working closely with the student leaders of the planned demonstrations to ensure that they are conducted safely, and that they are not disruptive to those students not participating.”

A school in PA released a statement that they will provide a safe and secure environment in the court yard for those who want to participate. You are not going to stop this from happening. I commend them for being forward thinking and managing this properly - unlike Baltimore - where they wander the streets and block traffic.

I think it would be cool if the police would shoot the little leftist puppet snowflakes that walk out with rubber bullets or douse them with a fire hose.

As a parent and taxpayer this is BS! I already have one kid living in the basement with no hope of ever leaving cuz he's an idiot, now more days off to learn nothing!

These kids don't even know what they're protesting. Its legal because by law they have the ability to protest...great! Instead, if they think they're so stuck on being seen and views being heard (boohoo) then have a class session where they write to senators or the higher ups and actually provide details of what it is they're wanting change in. Bet they wouldn't participate in that. Whoever said pop quiz...teachers are allowed to do that...I say go for it!

Just glad it's cold outside.

You’re obligated to love them. Doesn’t mean you have to like them.

My boy attends a local private school. The Administrator has told the students, if you walk out, call your parents to come get you, and we'll see you in 3 days.

The “adults” commenting on this post have had decades to solve this problem and have shown no results.

You are incorrect 10:16. They have no right to walk out of school AND can be disciplined for doing so contrary to what all the "legal experts" on this blog and others are saying. Most are being "allowed" to do so by the schools but the students have no right Constitutionally or otherwise to do this.
Now if they as students want to organize a protest after school or on a day off then that is an expression of their 1st Amendment right but during school hours-nope.
It would be no different then a group of Catholic students walking out during classroom hours to pray the Stations of the Cross during Lent.

10:19 true!

Hence the dose of reality and tough love!!

There are better ways to express their concerns. These walkouts need true facts on what they are participating in and why and what does it prove / help. They are just proving their rebellious manner and proving to liberals that they are good little puppets. Also where is the parents leadership?

Good for them. It's about time someone had the guts to stand up to the NRA and the politicians they have on a leash. Better enjoy your AR-15's and other weapons of war now moron weekend warriors. The time for those is about up.

Who is in charge of these schools, the teachers or the kids? The tail is wagging the dog!

WAIST OF TIME !!!

Anonymous said...

it's the adults who have failed. the parents for not educating their kids about the liberal left and the parents for not demanding change in their schools! so don't blame the kids!

Are they going to Walk out every time something else happens ?? Ridiculous !!!

Anonymous said...

99% of the kids who walk will only be doing it for a break from the mind numbing routine that is school.

You did too much protesting in school. The time in the classroom would have been much better for you. It’s WASTE, not waist. You’re welcome.

It was your job to prepare your kid for adulthood. If you have a basement dweller that's on you.

Kids should walk out of public school, but not because of guns, because it has decayed into nothing more than a public babysitter that fills our children's heads with lies.

Be wonderful if they would have all been run over by trucks.
