Mike McDermott Wins Critical Endorsement in Sheriff's Race

(Snow Hill, MD) The Worcester County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 50 recently held a candidates forum for those individuals seeking to become the next Sheriff of Worcester County.

Lodge 50 represents and offers direct support to the nearly 100 deputies who work for the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office as well as officers working for Pocomoke City, Snow Hill and Ocean Pines. The deputies voted overwhelmingly to support and endorse Mike McDermott to be the next Sheriff of Worcester County.

“After hearing from the four candidates about their vision for the Sheriff’s Office and reviewing their resumes, there was no doubt about the strong support that Mike McDermott has in the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office” said Lodge President Chris Larmore. “The confidence and support of our members is critically important for our Sheriff, and we are excited about the future direction of the Office under the leadership of Mike McDermott.”

Mike McDermott is currently in his 36 year of law enforcement service. He is a Division Commander at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and has led every division of the Office during his career, including several multi jurisdictional task force operations. McDermott has also served as the Chief of Police for the Town of Snow Hill, was twice elected Mayor of Pocomoke City, and also served as a Delegate representing Worcester and Wicomico Counties
in the Maryland General Assembly.

McDermott stated he was “humbled” to receive the endorsement and support of his peers. “All of these deputies have worked for me at one time or another. To have their full support and confidence to be their next Sheriff means the world to me,” said McDermott. “I will not let them or their families down...and I will provide professional law enforcement to the citizens and

visitors of Worcester County.”

These types of endorsements are what I was waiting to see. This truly tells you who the people most effected want as their leader. You may have a difference of opinion, and we all have them...but when someone that will have to "work" for you endorses you...that wins "my vote"

He is without a doubt the most qualified candidate for the position.

Great job Mike, any great Sheriff will need the support of his men and not waiver when faced with issues that face them. The Deputies speak loudly, the voters should listen.

This is awesome news, Reggie has started throwing mud, wanna be ex marine that wants to control his successor. Mike will bring the WCSO to the front !

The first thing Sheriff McDermott will need to do is get rid of Matt Crisafulli. Matt knew that Mike was running for Sheriff and decided to run against him.

There will be too much animosity so in order to have a functioning top notch Sheriff's Office this guy needs to be eliminated from the Department.

Congratulations Sheriff McDermott.

Reggie Mason wasn't a real sheriff anyway. Screw that A$$! He held Sheriff McDermott back all these years.

It’s sad that a political liar can even attempt to better this office. I hope EVERYONE remembers all these promises made. As far as a key endorsement I wouldn’t vote for half of them either.

Thank you for the many kind words and thoughts expressed. Our focus in this campaign is, and always has been, professional experience and proven leadership. My opponents and their sycophants like to use the word "politician" apparently oblivious to part of the job dealing with elections, the electorate, and the required interactions with various elected officials or bureaucrats. Success in these jobs requires navigating tough environments and is not for the novice. Having depth in your resume should be a requirement of these critical jobs, but unfortunately anyone with residency and having passed the age requirement can plop down their $25 and see their name on a Primary ballot. It rests with the voters to insure the best outcomes. The FOP vote and endorsement comes from professional law enforcement personnel who have worked alongside or around most of the candidates. They know the difficulties of the job and have to work for the victor. I can tell you to ask any deputy about what they think about this race...they will tell you. My opponents do not want you to ask them, for they fear the response.

Thank you for your support!

Why would the sheriff endorse Matt, if he never promoted him to the command staff. If he was executive material, why not promote him?
If he didn’t like Mike, why didn’t he demote him off of his command?

It's so sweet to see everyone signs anonymous, what a bunch of cowards, own what you say or don't speak your feelings. FOP does not make a difference for me or most county citizens. HOOAH!!

My vote for, or against, him will be on a single issue...where does he stand on a Marylander's right to concealed carry? I have been unable to get a response from him on the subject. As a current law enforcement officer, I suspect he doesn't support a citizen's right to be armed.

Well Jimmy Cash, we already know your in the bag for Matty...birds of a party feather. Take another drink and go back to sleep.

Mike can speak for himself, but he was always pro 2A and conceal carry when he was a delegate. I've talked with him at Public Shooting dates in Worcester and he has plainly advised me he supports conceal carry. He even said it to the Salisbury Gun Club and he's the only member of the General Assembly to even speak to our members. I can't vote foir him, but I think he will be a great sheriff.

He is definitely pro Second Amendment, he has ran the range for many years and supports citizens legally carrying weapons.
Without a doubt the best candidate for Sheriff

9:40...I support a citizens right to keep and bear arms. Law enforcement personnel have nothing to fear from good citizens who elect to be armed. Quite the contrary is true. If the state believes you can be granted a conceal carry permit to protect your gold, of how much more value are those that you love? Defending your rights as a citizen is a critical job of your Sheriff.

Mike has always been an avid supporter of law enforcement and a supporter of the community at large combating crime. As an agency that supports 2nd amendment rights, and trains citizens to own firearms responsibly, we are proud to have him as the new Sheriff. He is truly a credit to the uniform and the community.
