5:07 PM welcome to the bury.

I was thinking the same damn thing. 48k? You paid your festival planner 60 K

5:07 - i wish just one of the positions that you have listed here was on the Eastern Shore! It would show some semblance of competition for employees here - there is NONE! What they're saying is "We'll let you live here but don't ask us to pay you!" There are only four half-decent employers on the Eastern Shore; Perdue (although they have had a number of leyoffs a few years ago), SU (gotta be a crony to get a job there), PRMC (layoffs and bad leadership), and UMES (gotta be in a protected class to get a job there)!

They'll get what they're paying for - someone to collect benefits and a measly check while contributing nothing!

The first bleeding-heart liberal who walks in gets the job.

All across the Bay. Last I knew Salisbury is not located in that area. Jobs you list do not state number of hours in a work week. In fairness you should not compare apples to oranges

It's the Eastern Shore. Tomorrow it'll be the Eastern Shore.

Missing for the job description: Pulling Boy Mayor's ass out of the sling he's gotten himself into with the Downtown Renovation Project.

There is no incentive for good people to stay here. Go make your money somewhere else. Come back if you like the shore when money isn't an issue for you any longer. Wonder why they have an opening?

So, a degree holding engineer with experience who will be responsible for our vital infrastructure gets $48k - while Jake Day's non-experienced, college drop out, daycare workers turned deputy city admins who push paperwork all day and plan festivals no one wants make $85k each???? Seriously???

You should have seen all of the city employees on Truitt street yesterday and today...unrea!

That's funny. If you want to get better pay then get hired by the fire department as a fireman. Their new "Fire Marshal" went from a low rank of firefighter/paramedic right to an Assistant Chief without the experience or qualifications required. Now he has a brand new Ford truck take-home vehicle. The Ford truck was stolen from the Station #1 Volunteers. Not only that all the free gas for his take home truck that he needs.

Now they are hiring a mechanic to change the oil once a year in all the fire trucks. WTH.

They have a paid Paramedic riding around to homes of people who called the ambulance twice in their lifetimes and checking blood pressures. All this at the expense of the taxpayers. Life is good in the 'Bury for paid firemen who don't even live in the city.

Here it is around 2:30 am and the Parsonsburg Volunteer Fire Department, Station 6 has been re-alerted numerous times to Ocean Gateway and Hobbs Road for a petroleum spill. Finally, just before the paid fire crew in Salisbury is alerted to take this call, someone from Parsonsburg answers up and says they have a crew and can handle the call. When they finally get out there are only 2 people responding. It is 616 which is a volunteer chief and 1 other volunteer responding in Rescue Engine 601. Two people staffing a large fire truck doesn't even meet the national standards. The Volunteers in this county are having more and more difficulty getting the equipment out, but yet they are telling the County Executive that they don't want or need the volunteers from Station 13 to run mutual aid with them. Eric Tyler is going around trying to work things out with Pittsville, Powellville, Fruitland and Willards to get them to say no to the Station 13 volunteers as well. Why would you deny free labor from volunteer firefighters? This is the reason the County Executive needs to find his balls and create a Countywide Fire Department that answers to the Executive instead of a bunch of whiney volunteer fire chiefs. Get some balls Bob Culver and tell Eric Tyler he doesn't have a choice. Eric Tyler became the volunteer fire chief in Parsonsburg when their previous chief passed away. Eric Tyler is also a paid fireman in Anne Arundel County where he is in the union and playing along with the unions demands. Salisbury's union has been in touch with the fire union in Anne Arundel County to put pressure on Eric Tyler and also Cory Polidore who is also a paid fireman in Anne Arundel County and the Chief of Station 13. Eric Tyler needs to get some balls and stand up to the Firefighters Union in Anne Arundel County. He also needs to quit being territorial and welcome mutual aid from the volunteers of Station 13. Bob Culver find some balls and quit being pushed around by Jake Day and the paid firemen of the Salisbury Fire Department. Bob Culver, you are the elected County Executive, get some balls and tell the volunteer fire chiefs that you make the rules not them. If they don't agree then cut off their funding.

Wow, I'm sitting here listening to my fire department radio and Central is re-alerting the ambulance crew to go to the Food Lion on Nanticoke road for an assault. They finally got out at 3:29 AM and sounded extremely groggy on the radio. The crew of Paramedic A-16 over slept and didn't hear the calls. The paid assistant chief slept through the dispatching as well. This happens every single night of the week.

Those paid fireman need to go back on the 8 hour shifts instead of getting paid to sleep. The mayor and council needs to step in like they did in Ocean City and take their sleeping privileges away from them. What kind of care can they give if they have been sleeping and groggy.

Must be nice to get paid $70,000 a year as a paramedic or assistant chief and get paid to sleep.

Starting salary for a Fed Gov't (Army) Engineer (Corps of Engineer) entry level GS7 (with degree) is $46609 in the DC area.

- automatic Promotion after 1st year to GS9 - $57015
- automatic promo after 2nd year to GS11 $68,036
- sometimes another automatic promo after 3rd year to GS12 $81,548.

Entry level starting jobs (ALL occupations) are out there all the time throughout the world via OPM.GOV. MOST entry level occupations do NOT require a degree (obviously engineers/scientists, educators, counselor's do) Just have to look and in some cases make a move to where the food (i.e., $$$$) is!

Prob a job for someone already retired and just looking to do some additional work.

What's sad is that is still nearly 20k/year more than the median household income.

Anonymous said...

Less than 40 hrs. a week and full benefits? Awful generous with our money.

Anonymous said...

They will most likely hire some family member. They have to advertise it, but they don't have to hire anyone who shows up who is not in the click.

This is an intro position right out of college, to obtain an EIT you must have some experience, but not much. For 35 hours a week it’s right inline with the rest of the construction ingdustry for the area.

They want to pay a project manager less than they pay that idiot planning the folk festival? I’ll just leave that right here.
