Wicomico County Councilman & Salisbury Resident Deals With Theft And Salisbury Maryland Police Department

Larry W. Dodd was feeling disappointed.
5 hrs ·

ted across the next chain link fence heading towards Phillips Avenue. I debated a minute and then called the Salisbury Police. The dispatcher wasn't pleasant to deal with. I told her I just got back from the hospital after 4 days and can't meet with anyone. She first said then can do extra patrol checks since no crime was committed. I said wait, someone climbs my fence, grabs my bike and throws it into the neighbors yard(vacant house for a couple of years) and then climbs back over my fence but that isn't a crime? I said someone jumped my fence 2 months ago and stole my daughters bike and it may have been them. I gave them enough information that hopefully they started someone in that direction to find someone that matches the description. She put me on hold for a little while then comes back and says something like if you can't meet with us then we can't file a report. I thought it wasn't a crime? Again I said Ma'am I just got out of the hospital and I am resting while on medications. I did not witness it, my neighbor across the street sitting in his van did. I let her know who I was and that I was going to contact the chief. I am so upset with her attitude that it's hard to fall back asleep. For the most part the Salisbury PD with it's chief is an excellent department, but occasionally there are some that makes you question why they were hired. Going back to bed to get my much needed rest.

He posted that the thugs came back and jumped his fence again and stole it. If that dispatcher would have taken the information and sent someone to check the area they may have caught the criminals in action. I am glad that I moved out of the city. People stealing from you in broad daylight. Kind of ballsy I would say. Too bad you are not allowed to shoot thieves in your fenced in back yard.

Don't have time to meet police, but have time to write a bitch and moan story?

Larry,
I feel your pain. I would say that many times its not why they were hired that is the problem. Its what happens after they are hired that creates the problem. Lack of leadership. Allowing unprofessional behavior. A sense of entitlement sets in.

11:43 AM highly unlikely.

Good help with good attitudes are hard to find in Salisbury.

Interesting how he thought he deserved special treatment because of "who he was".

I bet if you had caught the criminal and beat him the police would have shown up. And arrested you.

exactly my thought - but the posting appears to start mid sentence so wasn't sure if the crime happened today or when a bike was stolen. Maybe neighbor sitting in van has the details and could report. Umm so did he talk to the neighbor but can't talk to anyone else. Hope you soon feel better Mr D and please remove your children's picture from post. Not a good ideal to expose them publicly in this day and time IMO

I have 30 years experience in the city limits and have sadly been the victim of multiple, multiple crimes. Never once - not a single, solitary time - have the SPD resolved anything. No one was ever arrested, charged, detained, investigated, etc. A majority of the time they show up, take a report, and apologize because there is "nothing we can do" and you NEVER hear from them again. They've stopped caring, they've stopped trying. And I only half blame them because the courts never follow through anyway. If the stet docket were the largest ship in the world, it would have sunk long ago due to overcrowding.

I've called 911 to report suspicious activity myself on more than one occasion and have been severely unimpressed. You call, give the description of your emergency to someone, who then TRANSFERS you, you hold, wait, and then you get to start your story all over again. Absolutely no sense of urgency.

Are there No Trespassing signs on your fence? If not, there were no trespassers, just thieves.

I hate calling the police. I can understand them wanting your name and all but they start asking birthday and everything else as if you are the criminal. I think they do this on purpose. I am not blaming the officers but the political appointees like the chiefs and the politicians. They purposefully make it difficult to report crime so people don't do it and it appears as thought crime is down. Democrat politicians are very guilty of this.

Police don't have much time for stolen bikes. I found one over the summer in the weeds. Brand new bike. Called the police. Officer shows up. Really nice. Sends in the bikes serial #. Came back not registered..(register your bike with the police if you have not!). They have no where left to store stolen bikes. So, I was told to do with it as I may. So, I sold it.
Trespassing another story. And as we've been told by, sheriffs dept. and state police, without a "no Trespassing " sign in plain view. Not much they are going to do.

"ted across the next chain link fence heading towards Phillips Avenue."
Is there a beginning to this?

I called 911 once to report a suspicious vehicle parked in front of my house. I live in a small development with one way in and one way out. No thru traffic. I know all my neighbors and I know when something is not right. This was at 10:00pm. I was told it is not illegal to park in the street. A few minutes later, as I was checking around my property, 2 men in camouflage ran out from between mine and my neighbors house. I had already retrieved a handgun when I went outside to check my property. They tried to run to the car but I beat them to it and stood there. They saw my weapon and ran down the street. I called 911 back again asked the dispatcher if it was illegal for 2 men in camo to run off my property and I was armed and prepared to defend myself and my family. Once she heard that I had all sorts of police show up. The end to this story is the 2 guys broke into a house 2 doors away from me.

11:46 how deep does your ignorance go??? good grief, he explained why he couldn't meet with them. unfortunately the Salisbury Police are not too bright or aggressive enough in pursuing criminals or correcting anything.

Motion detector lights, surveillance cameras, sturdy locks on bikes. Spend a little, save a lot.

Exactly! Why couldn't they go with the information that was given to them and send a patrol car in the area. They may have solved some crimes. That's what they get paid for.

Isn't he allowed to leave his name?

Do a Joe Biden move. Take your shotgun, go out on the back porch, and blast a couple rounds. That'll learn em'.

Get outta here with all that crap. They are right. In case you haven't noticed there are murders and drugs in Salisbury. Because idiot hops your fence and stole your daughter's bike three years ago you call the police now expecting them to be Johnny on the spot ? Surprise they have more serious things to deal with if you can't take the time out of your day to meet with them. Suprise number two you are a big fish in a small pond. You aren't anybody. Just because you are on the county or city council you expect the police to change their procedures. Then you want to call to get someone in trouble because your a big shot? Give me a break. You aren't anyone important. None of us are. Including all the so called hack polititions, sheriff's and chiefs around here. Big fish in small pools. So many egos around here you can't walk around without bumping into twenty a day. Everyone around here thinks they are more important then the next person. It's pathetic.

These dispatchers are completely rude & dismissive. I had the pleasure of dealing with the female @ WCSO and was so disgusted by the encounter it made me decide to never call the police again unless I 100% had to. I'd rather handle it myself than be talked to that way ever again.
