AG JEFF SESSIONS SUGGESTS PROSECUTIONS FOR MARIJUANA GROWERS, SELLERS AND USERS IN LEGALIZED STATES

Attorney General Jeff Sessions suggested that the Department of Justice may crack down on people who grow and sell marijuana, even in the 29 states that legalized the plant, echoing the drawn-out argument that it is still against federal law.

Sessions made the non-surprising comments on conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt’s show after Hewitt asked whether the Department of Justice (DOJ) would be prosecuting marijuana growers and dispensaries for being criminal enterprises under RICO.

“A lot of states are just simply breaking the law and a lot of money is being made and banked,” Hewitt said to Sessions of marijuana growers and sellers. “One Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations prosecution of one producer and the banks that service them would shut this all down. Is such a prosecution going to happen?”

Sessions told Hewitt that he didn’t think “one RICO prosecution would be quite as effective as that,” but said he doesn’t think states that legalized the drug had the right to ignore current federal laws that ban the sale of marijuana.

“I do not believe there’s any argument that because a state legalizes marijuana, that the federal law against marijuana is no longer in existence,” Sessions said. “I do believe that the federal laws clearly are in effect in all 50 states and we will do our best to enforce the laws as we’re required to do so.”

But I thought Republicans were all for smaller Federal govt. (less regulations) and giving more authority to individual states.

Legalize it on the federal level. Get it done!!!

they just can't let it go can they .

Time to dig out that pesky 10th Amendment and let the Feds know what the rules are. Nothing in the Constitution gives federal power to control growing any plant material.

No, they can't just let it go and that is sad. They have enough criminals to clear up right there in Washington but they want to distract from that now, so they start on this old dead horse again. The states legalized it, let it go. It should not be on the schedule with heroin that it is listed with. Do you see potheads draped all over fire hydrants or passed out in their cars with their kids in their cars? NO.

State’s rights! Didn’t we have this war?

Give it a rest, Jeff.

Not when it comes to public safety 7:03. The federal government's number one duty is to keep the citizens safe. Anyone who hasn't noticed and won't admit the opioid epidemic is directly related to this is either not being honest or is clueless.
Pot is so not stigmatized anymore that parents were turning a blind eye. Just like alcohol and people doing shots and shooters the kids today are looking to up their high a level. This leads to trying stronger drugs. Again anyone who won't admit this is either dishonest or grossly ignorant of the progression of drugs.

And maybe he should start right there in Washington, D.C. since it is "legal" there as well. Screwed up laws we have. Not that ANYBODY in Washington, D.C. pays any attention to laws anyway. Case in point: Hillary Clinton. Has she been locked up yet? I rest my case.

When the prohibition amendment was passed it was recognized that Congress alone could not outlaw alcohol. Pot was legal then. Sessions wants to violate the Constitution on this as well as confiscation of property without due process.

With all the high crimes and misdemeanors of high ranking powerful politicians and gov. depts, theft, collusion and corruption destroying this Country.....this stupid chit is what you pull out of the bag? SERIOUSLY? Is there even ONE decent man left up there?!?!

Jeff should be digging into Hillary’s uranium one scandal instead of worrying about pot smokers.

His boss said it's up to the States end of descusion. Sessions needs to do something, anything with the Clintons ruining the Democratic election! Uranium deal! And the ridiculous witch hunt on Trump. If he doesn't I think Sessions will be fired!

He needs to let it go. He is not acknowledging the will of the people and the majority are for legalization. Lock him up. He is crooked as they come. He wants every reason to keep his investments of private prisons stable.

They are 7:03, just before mid-terms. It's disappointing.

Pot increases the risks for heart trouble. Medicinal pot for truly ill people is fine. Why are cigarettes, pot, and alcohol not declared illegal for health reasons?

7:44. Truth!

Please get off that ole brainwash melody of marijuana is the gateway drug. Prescription opioids are the true gateway to street opioids. Wake up please.

Is that you again Chuck Cook? I thought you were still hibernating in O'Malley's rectum since he and the Hildabeast got spanked!

Just because the states made it legal doesn't mean they supersede the Federal Government.

It's the law and it's their obligation to enforce it.
