OCPD Reminding Visitors of Local Ordinances Ahead of Motor Event

Thousands of car enthusiasts will soon be arriving in Ocean City for Endless Summer Cruisin’ set to begin October 5. The Ocean City Police Department would like to remind visitors of several traffic regulations and local ordinances in anticipation of the event.

Common traffic violations officers see during motor events include speeding, reckless driving, negligent driving, spinning wheels, and placing injurious substances on the roadway. These violations carry fines ranging from $70 to up to $530 and up to six points assessed by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration to your driver’s license. In addition, effective October 1, the practice of intentionally emitting black exhaust at a person or vehicle, commonly referred to as “rolling coal”, can result in a fine up to $500.

“When motor events such as Endless Summer Cruisin’ come to town, our roadways quickly become very congested, causing unavoidable traffic delays,” commented Police Chief Ross Buzzuro. “I encourage all residents and visitors to use caution and drive carefully to ensure that everyone stays safe on the roadways.”

Visitors are also reminded of local municipal ordinances, such as trailer parking. Trailers are not permitted to park on any public street or paved public lot without a permit from May 1 through October 31. Endless Summer Cruisin’ participants may purchase a $50 permit from the event promoter. Limited paid trailer parking is available on the 100thStreet gravel lot and limited free trailer parking is available at the West Ocean City Park & Ride beginning at noon on September 29 until noon on October 9.

Spectators are advised to keep public sidewalks clear for pedestrian traffic. Also, open containers on public property, including public sidewalks, streets and alleyways, are strictly prohibited. Anyone violating this municipal ordinance is subject to a $100 fine. “We are expecting yet another safe and successful Endless Summer Cruisin’ weekend as long as visitors continue to respect our town and our laws and local ordinances,” continued Chief Buzzuro.

With the increased number of visitors in mind, allied agencies will be in Ocean City to assist including the Maryland State Police, Maryland Transportation Authority, Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, and Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Office.

Finally, visitors can expect traffic delays throughout the weekend. Drivers are reminded to use caution, refrain from texting while driving and be aware of pedestrians. Pedestrians are reminded to Walk Smart, use crosswalks, and wait for the signal to change before crossing.

Stay away from O.C. when the car and bike people come to town. They ruin the city with their obnoxious, arrogance, and bad manners. Turn a pleasant place into chaos. Hurts the economy and the locals that are subjected to this nonsense.

Summer Cruisin brings in an older and far more mature crowd, unlike the young punks with their cheesy Volkswagens and Audis.

I think you have forgotten how to enjoy your self USMCR Retired... This group of people are not selling drugs on the corner in OC like what would usually be happening at night. Try to find a Hotel Room or get a seat in a restaurant without a two hour wait. I think they are spending a lot of money in OC its fun and something parents can take their kids to see with out violence or drugs. You are just another Vet with a big ego and attitude thanks for your service...

6:04 We were going to go camping in west OC but not now. The last time we camped during a "car event" we no sooner went to bed around 11:00 p.m. and the cars started pouring in after their event on the island. No peace and quiet anywhere during these car events. My spendable dollars will be going to Lancaster.

I know I have cleared my weekend to attend. I will take 6 people with me who will eat, pay a parking fee, and spend my hard earned money to admire beautiful well put together machines. The owners if those cars are here, also spending their money and should be welcomed. It's a free enjoyable show. I could be home raking leaves and watching football instead.
