Longer summer school break in Md. sparks tourism excitement

WASHINGTON — Maryland tourism has been heating up later in the summer season due to the executive order signed by Gov. Larry Hogan last year that requires, with few exceptions, public schools across the state to start classes after Labor Day.

“This current week has been an extremely busy week,” said Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan. “We’re excited, and I think it’s a great opportunity for Marylanders.”

Before Hogan’s order, nearly all school systems in Maryland opened before Labor Day.

“So many Maryland families weren’t able to come that last week of the summer,” Meehan said. “Our Marylanders, to a great degree, were absent.”

Mayor, do show us the numbers please!

2:59. Ocean City publishes comprehensive tourism metrics every month on their government website. All you have to do is look.

So if this weekend was good for tourism, one would have to wait a month for the numbers. By then, the Mayor and minions will have done, said something else we'll be worried about and already forgot about so many MD families being here because school doesn't open until after labor day.

Nah, give the numbers now or he's talkin out the side of his mouth again!

It's no-brainer that this schedule makes for a much better planning environment for summer vacations. I don't need "statistics" to tell me common sense, 5:25. You are just here to troll your Union agenda or something.
