The president of an organization that reaches across racial and cultural lines to bring Americans together around the nation’s foundational principles says he condemns both the “white right group” and the “counter-protesters” who participated in the events in Charlottesville Saturday.
Bishop E.W. Jackson, the president of S.T.A.N.D., said in a Facebook video Saturday during the events in Charlottesville, “Both sides of this want us divided racially.”
"They want to turn everything into a racial issue. They believe that somehow … our country really is black against white – we’re not that at all. We are a nation founded on principle – not race."
The bishop also recommended that Confederate flags and monuments – aside from personal property – be placed where people who wish to view them can do so. He suggests that unifying objects – such as the American flag – be considered for public monuments and symbols.
Jackson explains he makes that recommendation, however, as an African-American who lives in Virginia, has run for office in Virginia, and has visited Charlottesville many times with his family.
“I have seen those [Confederate] monuments,” he said. “My family and I have not given them a second thought, to tell you the truth, because what do they have to do with us? Nobody bothers us, nobody’s harassing us. We never really cared.”

I feel the same way brother. Its history and up to us to teach our kids about it
95 percent were all white fighting each other. College kids have force Trump to let Jeff Sessions rain hell on the first amendment. Racism is a thing of the past. We voted in a black president twice landslide victorys. People don't see color anymore they just see money and a roof over their heads and we are hurting that's why trump won.
941 apparently you haven't been reading the comments here else you would rethink your statements.
I do agree that most folks simply past by monuments and statues without further thought. But lets keep it real here folks. Confederates rose up against the US because they wished to maintain the power to enact a system that was 100% against the spirit of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. The Confederacy was a anti-American values as you can get. So why honor them with monuments and memorials. Taking these down does not "erase" history. It actually puts confederate leaders in the exact place they should be; the grave yard.
Last thing. Its funny how many of you on here talk about Republicans being the "party of Lincoln" on one hand. Then you turn around and want to celebrate those who went to war against Lincoln. Sorry bud, you can't have it both ways.
How many of those 'protestors' were paid to be there and make trouble?
10:24,those who are removing the Ten Commandments and Christmas because they feel are offensive, where does it end?
1121 please actually gather facts and think critically. You can't just arbitrarily lump issues and groups together. LOL
10:24 because if you erase history it never existed to future generations. The good bad and ugly. In 2017 there are too many other things to be focused on like learning to respect each other and building stability, and dealing w/ the here and now. Not Focusing on someones sensitivity to what was, learning how to prevent it and do better should be the objective. You cant do that erasing history like a statue. Thats life cause it means pain to you & I dont mean it means pain to the next person, but through education, growth and understanding maybe it can help another person to develop empathy and a change of heart. Even a person of color. Who knows why these figures thought and felt as they do, but it matters. And this is coming from a person of color. As a child if I hadnt saw images and staues of some of these figures I wouldnt have an appreciation for my ancestors and the drive to make sure me and mines honor them and avoid some of their errors in life. Im far from perfect, but I can say im a productive tax payer and raising my children to be the same socially, financially and education wise. I dont want those statues to be removed no more than I want images of slavery and the civil rights movement discarded. Be real. You cant have it both ways. one would say those images despite the resilience are ones that need to be forgotten due to the negative and violent nature in them and are counter productive. Think about it.
Since the civil war It HAS been divided and always will be !
Wrong .....it was OBAMA SHARPTON CNN doing
Looks like a lot of you are divided about being divided LoL
