Road Rage Incident South of Bridgeville Leads to Arrest

Jason R. Reed
Bridgeville - The Delaware State Police have arrested a Syracuse man after a road rage incident leads to a physical confrontation between drivers.

The incident began around noon on Sunday July 16, 2017, as a 50-year-old Delmar, Delaware man was operating his 2015 Dodge Challenger northbound in the left lane of Sussex Highway (US13), south of Seashore Highway (SR404). Jason R. Reed, 39 of Syracuse, New York, was operating a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country northbound directly behind the Challenger and was becoming irritated that the car was traveling the speed limit in the left lane. Reed then entered into the right lane and began passing the Challenger when he made an abrupt lane change back into the left lane striking the right front bumper of the car with the left side of the mini-van. The Challenger then drove into the center median and came to a controlled stop. Reed also pulled into the center median and exited his vehicle to confront the operator of the Challenger.

Upon making contact with the 50-year-old driver, who is disabled and exited with his cane, Reed began an argument which turned physical, leading to the two men fighting in the median and causing more damage to the Challenger when the two fell into the side of the car. The 50-year-old victim was able to separate from the fight after taking a tactical advantage over Reed and forcing him to the ground prior to the troopers arrival. All the events took place while Reed's wife and two children were in his vehicle and were uninjured in the incident. The 50-year-old victim was slightly injured during the altercation, but did not require medical attention.

Jason Reed was transported to Troop 5 in Bridgeville where he was charged with Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Vehicle), four counts of Reckless Endangering 2nd, Assault 3rd, two counts of Criminal Mischief, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Malicious Mischief by Motor Vehicle, Disorderly Conduct, and Failure to Remain within a Single Lane. He was arraigned at JP3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $40,350.00 secured bond.

If he has that much rage inside of him, he needed to stay home, he certainly didn't need to be on the road and I really do feel sorry for his wife and kids if he ever takes that rage out on them.

A 39 year old getting his azz whipped by a disabled 50 year old man who walks with a cane...wow. Reed's nickname should be Charmin cuz he's as soft as toilet paper.

Yes, I agree to a point. But like someone else mentioned, sometimes people have to make left turns and that's why they are in the left lane.

But, some inconsiderate drivers ride in the left lane when their turn is still 5 miles away.

I can forgive stupid drivers but the ones who do it on purpose are real unsafe obstacles. If you see people behind you, move over. If you must ride in the left lane you can always move back over to the left after they pass, even though that is ILLEGAL.

Why wouldn't you want faster drivers in front of you anyway? If speed cops are up ahead, let them get the ticket and you can cruise on by, honking the horn if you like.

And with all the traffic lights on roads such as US 13, you will not get over a mile ahead of anyone. Most will catch back up to you at one of the many lights.

The local was driving the legal speed limit... and I understand the point about left lane road hogs and find it equally frustrating when I'm traveling. However society has been mentally so speeded up, they think they can pick and choose which law we can break... and then get out and try to bust somebody's chops ! WRONG! I would hate to be married to Reed, or have him be the father of my children . He obviously has an anger issue along with arrogance and disregard for the law .

I feel that way all the time when I drive in Delaware. I think Delaware is Indian for 'must drive in left lane'.
It's a passing lane folks, move over. I'm not sure who's worse: Delaware or Virginia drivers for this 'violation'. I travel a lot and these are 2 of the worst states for left-lane cruising. NC is a close 3rd.
Why do people find it so hard to let people pass? Because they're rude and inconsiderate, that's why.

Looks like he took a cane to the eye. After getting lawyered up, he may have a cause of action against the other driver for using a weapon during the assault.

It's also for left turns. It is not a limited access highway. People should move over when they see others behind them. But also you must consider those who won't let drivers out of the right lane to pass or make a left turn. How many times have you seen someone speed up so no one could get in front of them? How many times have you done it yourself?

It's 55mph in both lanes so keep that in mind also. Someone intentionally driving slower than the flow of traffic in the left lane is being aggressive to me and causes road rage. It is no one's job to slow down traffic if they think they are traveling too fast and they cause more problems. If they feel that passionate, move over and notify police. THEY are the enforcers of traffic laws, not some self-important person who thinks they are doing a civil service or something.

Sounds like most commentators on here have a bit of road rage going on. If a driver is going the speed limit in the left lane, right lane, middle lane, or a lane above or below, they are going the posted limit. You are the one's that violate the law by passing and pissing others off. It's called speeding for a reason, you are the violator. Drive save, the life you save , may be your own....dummy
