The Infamous Bat Proudly Displayed On Their Own Social Media Site

While their Facebook Page has now been taken down, (just hours ago) before we posted yesterday's video there was 15,000 views, now it has over 83,000 views. Clearly this has become a major topic and has been shared 1,400 times.

Agree or disagree with this form of discipline, clearly people are very upset. Even though other local news outlets have been informed of this matter and even tagged on Facebook, they, (once again) remain silent. The almighty advertising dollar is mightier then the sword/bat.

According to numerous comments on Facebook, the Salisbury Police were called and the SPD stated no laws were broken.

You all are going to hate on me for this but here it goes anyway. I don't find anything wrong with the plastic bat. I did not see anything in the video that appears to be animal abuse. If anything, anytime that you get a bunch of dogs around one another there is always the potential of a fight breaking out and the person out in the yard would be stupid to put their hands/arms in the middle of the scuffle. The same thing goes with tapping on the dog as a form of discipline.

Pardon the pun but, I do not have a dog in the fight here. Maybe I do because my dogs go to Cathy's and we're happy with the way they turn out. I can't speak for others but I can for me. They never have shown any signs of abuse or get scared when being dropped off (from what I've been told by my wife and daughter who normally take them to Cathy's).

That's all that I have to say.

Cheers 821 you are entitled to your opinion. I agree that the bat was not hurting the dogs, my velvet hippo bangs her head on the coffee table just about every day (you'd think she'd learn). People are very protective over their dogs. Just like spanking children, correcting a dog with force is a polarized topic.

A large fly swatter works for me. But my dogs are much smaller. I don't need anything as large as a NERF bat.

I'm glad this vindictive person complaining is not my neighbor. It seems to be "much ado about nothing."

Glad to see folks with common sense posting. Agree 100% with 8:21's analysis. We've used them for more than twenty years, never less than thoroughly pleased. Have talked to groomers outside of town. All spoke very highly. It's a shame there are some mean spirited people that have nothing better to do than swat bees at the honey jar.

Just as with my wife and children, it should only be me beating my dog.

Anonymous said...

Those dogs are not being abused all are wagging their tails.

Anonymous said...

I see two bats!

I have seen a plastic bat used as well and did not see an issue with it. In my honest opinion, people are over reacting. I agree, wholeheartedly with Rebel without a Clue, and I don't have a dog presently. Whomever owns this business needs to explain her tactics. I don't have an issue with the video!

I thought it mentioned Hebron yesterday, now states SPD responded. Where is the place?

Anonymous said...

The picture of "the bat" has been on facebook for at least a year. Strange how no one ever mentioned it before. If I had a vindictive employee like Trice who had nothing constructive to do I would soon be out of business..

The grooming is not what is at issue here. The treatment of the animals in the doggie daycare IS! So you are all saying that you're OK with someone hitting your dog with an object? That you're OK with your dog constantly being put at risk of injury because new, unknown dogs (to you and your pooch) are added to the pack every single day? You're not thinking beyond what you see in this video....it is glaringly apparent that hitting dogs with objects is SOP for this place. And apparently it's not always a wiffle bat. Posters, who use her services, have been shown a flat paddle with foam taped on it, and a foam-covered stick. What happens behind closed doors? What happens when that bat isn't handy? What happens to YOUR dog if he/she bites the bat lady out of fear? Why would you put your dog in a place that obviously is more concerned with $$$$ than taking proper care of your family member? The play yard is dirt....a haven for worms, viruses, bacteria, and disease from fecal material. Very little grass and no shade. No toys. Not much room for pup to run, stretch and play. Oh, forget about playing! Bat lady doesn't know the difference between play and fighting. And doesn't know how to properly establish being an alpha of the pack unless it involves physical punishment. What's next? A taser?

9:40 AM Well then, your opinion doesn't count if you do not even own a pet..

Most of you cheering are too narrow minded to figure out there are bigger issues and lots of complaints of people from this facility hitting animals, including those coming from others is the same field.

But don't let that stop you from backing such behavior but don't come crying when your pooch gets hurt.

There are better ways to discipline and this is the LAZY one. Some minimum wage worker with absolutely NO experience in Dogs.

We learned our lesson long ago to stay away from them. Because they hit our dog.

What you are seeing from this is just the tip of the iceberg and you are too stupid to realize that if this is what they do on camera, I can't imagine what they do off camera.

It is true, you can't fix stupid..

People are NOT over reacting when that dog did nothing wrong!!! And if you have seen some of the other videos posted by a neighbor, you clearly see a dog cowering to the ground as this woman walks toward him. He KNEW he was about to get hit... CLEARLY this has happened before!!!

Anonymous said...

I wish somebody would find fault with MY business.. Do you know how much all this free advertising is worth?? I couldn't afford it.

Anonymous said...

The company next door from where the video originated have been harassing Cathy's for years and reporting them to various dept in the city because of the dogs barking. Maybe the motive for the video needs to be considered!!

Anonymous said...

Whether it is true or not I do not know-but it's been said this particular dog is aggressive toward other dogs. I then question the wisdom of allowing an aggressive dog into the 'day care.' The fact is-if this dog does decide to fight another dog that bat is going to be worthless.

Just because a dog wags their tail does NOT mean they are happy. Many times it means they are terrified. In this case that dog was NOT happy. He was terrified as proof by the way he cowered when that grotesque Beast came at him with that bat.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry, Cathy. This will all blow over when the readers realize that this person has been harassing you for months trying to get you to move.

Anonymous said...

LOL oh this must be the "pro" cathy comment site. Because you are not posting the "con" comments.

10:52 the""blow over" for me was pulling my pet from her care when I saw her smacking her with a hair brush in the face.

I guess you need to define blow over.

Anonymous said...

10:28 AM yes because there are actually dog laws about barking and it is within their rights to complain, so maybe Cathy should be a bit more considerate towards her neighbors instead of crying about their complaining.

Funny how that 2 sides to every story works

Are you for real. It makes ZERO difference and I will repeat since you seem to be some kind of simpleton or something-ZERO difference as to any motive to the video. ZERO do you understand.
The ONLY thing that matters is that grotesque beast going after that dog with a bat who then cowers. And let me set you straight here and now before you start with the dog's tail wagging nonsense which only serves to prove that you are a complete ignoramus. A dog will wag their tail when they are scared or in this case terrified as proof by the cowering.
So you want to try again so I can then again put you in your place?

Balanced Libra said...

Agree 100%. Im.pretty sure pet owners who take their dogs there didn't take them to be hit.

Balanced Libra said...

I've heard complaints about this place for years, not just from the neighbor at this location.

11:00, I'm not exactly sure what in the hell you are talking about. Perhaps we haven't been fast enough in moderating comments for your liking?

All I can tell you is, the comments, (many of them) make me sick to my stomach.

Nevertheless, I have been more then fair with what has been sent in.

On a personal note, let me answer many of your questions on how I personally feel about this matter. It makes me sick! NO ONE will EVER strike one of my dogs, period. For those of you who don't own dogs, when you put them in a pack of 9 dogs, one of them will in fact try to be the alpha dog, period. This is a freaking business, professionals who know this to be a fact. You can and will ALWAYS expect one, (if not more) of these dogs to act out, it is expected. If one of these dogs has a reputation of being more aggressive then the others, you separate them. There are NO excuses, don't hit my damn dog.

There, I said it.

Balanced Libra said...

That's what people don't realize. It's a pattern and not just with the wiffle bat.

http://www.lauderdalepetlodge.com

This is what a real doggy daycare looks like. $35/day + snacks ($).

Anonymous said...

They shouldn't ever care who is taping them. If they were on the up and up anyway they would have real time cameras located throughout the facilities so dog owners can log in and watch any time they want. This is how the professional dog day cares do it.

Anonymous said...

Joe is right. I knew of a dog day care in Miami Beach and they required a DNA test before accepting a dog to the program. This so they knew the exact breed and if there were any mix in the dog. This way they could determine any inherent traits such as a potential to be more aggressive.

Anonymous said...

I agree with you , some may not like it but it doesn't look to me like she was trying to hurt them, just discipline, unless I missed something

Anonymous said...

Don't care what the motive is! This is NOT acceptable behavior for a business that is "all about the dogs!" It's obvious the owner supports this method of discipline because the bat is in all the videos posted on her site! Videos don't lie and there's more than one. So, you, who believes this is acceptable, keep taking your pets there. If the comments on FB and here are any indication of how the vast majority feel, you won't be enough to keep her doors open! If she was smart, she'd change her policies STAT, improve the play area, and issue a statement saying she's reviewing her policies in light of the community's response. This video has gone viral and has hit states on the other side of the US. If this is ok on camera, what happens where there are no cameras?

Anonymous said...

With all this hysteria, has ANYBODY claimed to have actually SEEN anybody strike a dog???

JoeAlbero said...

11:50, go look at the video. I provided a link to it in the article.

So with all these people that have no problem with it. why not have them assemble downtown, no clothes on for protection, and we can get a few wiffle ball bats and take a few good whacks at them, their head is legal to hit also. and they can't do anything but cower.
lets see if they think it's ok to hit an animal like that.

Anonymous said...

I question their lack of common sense and good judgement. With all the out of the way places and not right next to others a stone's throw from Sby why did they even open up in this area of Mt Hermon Rd. Did they not know dogs will bark? Did they not have enough sense to consider this when opening the day care? They brought this problem on themselves by not using common sense and forward thinking skills. People would save themselves much trouble if they would just think things out.

Anonymous said...

If this is the same place that was on Mt Hermon road we took our dog there to get groomed. When we arrived to pick her up 10 min early she told us to leave and come back in 15 mins. We did what we were told to do and when we returned our dogs eye looked like it had been hit or she had had a stroke. Something serious happened to our dog they denied anything happened. We know what happened our dog heard us come to get her and the girl wasn't finished grooming and she took it upon herself to discipline our dog that just wanted to go home with her owner! Would never ever go back to Cathy's Pet Salon

Anonymous said...

I'd like to see the entire video not just this clip taken from Trice/Geary's window.

Anonymous said...

They are so uptight and worried about this video so much so they took down their Facebook and are trying to blame others and justify the action here. They are trying to cover this up anyway they can. That makes you wonder how they treat animals when they can't be taped. I wouldn't take my pets there for any amount of money after seeing their reaction to this. They are not on the up and up. They should have immediately owned this and agreed to review or change their policies.

Anonymous said...

New doggie daycare coming soon...Goodbye Cathys Pet Salon; hope your next endeavor doesn't involve anything with a pulse!!!

Anonymous said...

Why anyone in their right mind would take their dog to that dump is beyond me. I've seen pigsties in better shape. Also just for the record there are at least 4 more tapes that are in the possession of authorities. Evidently this is mild compared to those.

11:50 - I have seen horrendous abuse at Cathy's.

Anonymous said...

I'm now hearing one bad story after another now about this place. One couple who moved down from Baltimore area took their small older dog there to be groomed. She came home terrified something she has never done before in her life. Also came home with a large abrasion under her neck and they denied they did it and got nasty. This happened about 6 yrs ago according the the dog's owner.

Anonymous said...

This is not hidden because there is nothing wrong with this method.

Anonymous said...

with all the attention this "case" has received, and now even on local media, are there any charges pending? I didn't think so.

Anonymous said...

A good place. Thanks for the publicity.

Anonymous said...

I have personally witnessed terrible abuse at this place, and believe my pet was seriously hurt there as well. This video, truly, is nothing compared to what goes on INSIDE. It makes me so sad for the animals b/c the employees really think what they do is OK.

Anonymous said...

I had initially booked an appointment at this place when I first got my dog, but I didn't feel comfortable and was redirected elsewhere. I ended up at Michelle's pretty paws and absolutely love Amy the owners daughter. She is so good with my "baby" as if it was her own. Whether these people are right or wrong I don't discipline my dog with a plastic bat why would Cathy's pet salon think it would be OK? This dog is like a child to me and I would flip out if I witnessed vsomeobe doing something like this

Anonymous said...

I can't imagine why anyone would be okay with PAYING to have your dog hit on a daily basis. You people on here blaming the person taking the video are just shooting the messenger nothing more. The fact of the matter is this is a business where people take their animals for grooming and/or socialization NOT to be hit with a wiffle ball bat. Anyone on here saying otherwise is just as bad as the woman hitting the dog.

Without even reading any comments all i can see is a good dose of flea meds for the k-9,s and some hefty salads for the gals.
