TANGIER ISLAND, Va. (WAVY) — James “Ooker” Eskridge had just finished crabbing Monday afternoon when he got a call from a woman who said she was from the president’s office. Moments later, President Donald Trump introduced himself to Eskridge saying, “You got one heck of an island there.”
Trump had just watched a CNN report on the island last week. Eskridge told CNN he loved Trump as much as a family member, and that led Trump to call Eskridge. So what did both men discuss?
“Just common sense stuff.”
Tangier is sinking from erosion and sea level rise. Scientists predict it may have to be abandoned in 25 years. WAVY’s Tom Schaad met with Mayor Eskridge and residents of Tangier Island last year, and they’re hoping to save a vanishing piece of American culture with a unique dialect that many believe goes back to 17th century England.

and some idiot threatened to unfollow one news source because this was posted in a "history" section. I wonder how many times a sitting president has called the island. maybe that is HISTORY?
I feel the same way as Ooker ! President Trump is somewhere between John Wayne & God. We are damn lucky to have him in the White House!
You GO Trump! Don't let them
get you down!
Holland island lost its last home a few years ago. Water is rising Google last house on holland.
i voted for trump but for him to say "the island has been there for hundreds of years and will be around for hundreds more" is just ridiculous. Those folks are going to have to move in probably 20-30 yrs.
Okay, explain the new islands being formed in the oceans. I know it is from seismic activity but this phenomenon ebbs and flows.
Man, this is great that the president called down to Tangier. A man of such character, we are fortunate and thankful for President Donald J. Trump.
melting snowflakes.
So spending money will stop the ocean rise?I have an insane asylum I would like you to visit.

Yes, water is rising, 3 millimeters a year and in a hundred years it will have risen almost a FOOT. EROSION is the culprit, not some climate change scam.
Yes, there is climate change. It has been changing for billions of years and will continue to do so.
Everyone seems to ignore ground subsidence. You can only take so much well water out before the ground begins to settle.
