Md. mother accused of suffocating her 2 toddlers in 2014 sentenced to 45 years
WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Sonya Spoon, the Cheverly mother accused of killing her two young children in 2014 was sentenced to 45 years in prison on Wednesday, according to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.
“Today, we held Sonya Spoon accountable for this heinous crime,” Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said in a press release on Wednesday. “These two innocent children were killed in their beds, in their home where they should have been safe. We must continue to do all we can to ensure that no other family has to suffer through the loss of a child in this manner and that no child is ever placed into this type of dangerous situation.”
Spoon, who was 24 at the time of the crime, admitted to police that she had suffocated her children, 3-year-old Kayla Thompson and 1-year-old Ayden Spoon, inside her parent's home at 6209 Forest Road, where she had been living with the kids, only two blocks from the town's police headquarters.

I don't quite understand why she's no in the looney bin.
I saw no motive for her horrible, unfathomable act, so she most obviously just has to be crazy. Right?
I guess I'm saying that I just don't understand how an insanity plea wasn't filed on this case.
Whatever the situation, let's all hope she's off the streets forever.
Why is it that the large majority of md's worst crimes happen in PG county and DC areas? That's right, it's where all the libs live, nevermind.
Why only 45 years? Why not life w/o parole or even execution. Those 2 poor little innocents!
There is no excuse for what she did, insane or not (officially speaking) because she had to be insane to commit such a horrible act. The death penalty is what she should have gotten. There is no need to try to study this woman or to try to rehabilitate her. Put her out of the tax-payers misery!
