Four women who say they were forced into prostitution are suing the owners of a Maryland hotel, arguing that staff knew or should have known that human trafficking was going on there.
The women claim to have been forcibly injected with heroin and made to have sex at a number of hotels in the area, but are suing the primary hotel where the alleged rapes took place - the America's Best Value Inn in Salisbury.
After a 2014 human-trafficking bust there, convicted ringleader Cornelius Briddell was given a 145-year prison sentence.

1052 apparently you have never looked into human trafficking cases. There are many ways both girls and boys can be forced into prostitution. Some get them hooked on drugs and then exploit the junkie's need for continued use. Others will use physical and verbal threats against younger siblings, parents, loved ones etc. Listen, I know you're probably one of those people who has never ventured off the Shore so you don't really have a clue how the really real world works, but there are literally hundreds of ways to force people into prostitution. Its all about social engineering and criminals are usually good at this tact.

They are nice people, I doubt they turned a blind eye, but they probably didn't recognize the signs either. Most people wouldn't have known.
The victims could have gone to the desk and asked for help but didn't, and now blame others.

1150 many times in these cases, the victims are heavily sedated and unable to call out. It could be the use of the date rape drug or a gun pointed at their temple. Have you ever had a gun pointed at your head, cocked and ready to discharge? Good guess the answer is no. There are many trafficking rings that work in areas for years without outsiders knowing what's happening inside the 'gate,'(the gate being people not near the area) so why are you trying to play armchair Joe Friday? Maybe someone in the motel was part of the crime? You just never know.
Most low end hotels are so used to trash coming in and out they dont pay any mind. Its off of a busy hwy why didnt the woman forced to have sex run away or call police theirselves. Why should a complete stranger get mixed into this mess and then god forbid they did im sure they would be called racist. Everyone is so quick to sue anymore its sad.

The owners are full of crap-lying. While I think the lawsuit is ridiculous they knew darn right well prostitution was going on and if they say they didn't they are liars. Everyone including people living in other areas knew that place and the other flop house motels were renting out rooms to be used by prostitutes.

I was on the jury. You have no idea what they did to these girls and women. Don't judge until you have all the information. Pray your daughter,sister or even wife is not pulled into a car while shopping or getting off work. No inside doors handles and a needle stuck in your arm. All in about 30 seconds.

Jacob Day:There isn't one single word of truth to what you read. I had to do some digging to figure out where this nonsense was coming from. When I found out it was a lonely guy sitting in his basement in Ocean City typing on his web log, I wasn't surprised. We are audited constantly by MDPSCS and have never once been found to have miscoded or not reported a crime. It is literally a federal crime and would lead to people going to prison. There is no truth to what you read, just a sad man trying to scare the women of our region. It's the same thing we've all been subjected to for 9 years. The difference is, most people long ago stopped reading it (check out hypestat.com). It doesn't feel good to get hoodwinked, especially when it causes fear. You can avoid this in the future by getting news from people with integrity. And just so we are clear, if there were a serial rapist investigation going on, and I pray to God there never will, our detectives and Chief and I'm sure MSP and others will be in front of cameras urging people to be vigilant. That's not something anyone would hide. Let your daughter know she's safe when she's in Salisbury. She has a nearly 20% chance of victimization for that type of crime than she does in Ocean City where sexual violence is far more likely. And if she ever feels unsafe, she can call on us to have an officer provide her an escort to her car after work or anywhere else. It's our pleasure. The mayor claims downgrading a crime is a federal offense. Really? Most I've ever read happening was facing a departmental disciplinary action. Maybe the mayor better stop spreading fake news.
I am glad they're suing and I hope they win! I recently heard rumors of an arrest. Did we hear ANYTHING from law enforcement so that we could know to protect ourselves and others from being victims? No! The lawsuit makes it difficult to ignore and at the very least, the victims' story will be told. I will be praying for the victims. They have endured an unimaginable horror that will be with them for the rest of their lives. How many calls, complaints, questions were made and fell on deaf ears. The mayor needs to go. Duncan and her leadership team need to go. The city council needs to go...and so does Mike Lewis and his senior staff. I am sick and tired of our city and county becoming more and more dangerous while we focus on follies like tearing up the streets in downtown or the next photo op for our elected officials to saw how wonderful they are. Serious violence in our high school system, rapes, murders, two colleges with horrible safety ratings, and now human trafficking. How much more before we demand that we be made aware of situations and that those elected or hired to protect us and our community are doing just that? There are some Very Scary gangs working in this area to traffic human women. The stories that you hear if you look around are Very Scary. Its not just women on drugs who become hookers, but also our Wives and Daughters are At Risk because of the Gangs who will kidnap them, rape them until they are tired of it and then sell them to other scum who will use them as hookers. My friend who is in Law Enforcement says that most of these gangs are made up of Muslims from Washington and Philadelphia, and this is the way they practice to get ready for their 62 virgins when they die from terrorism.

that is about the only way to effect change, especially in this area. most have their heads in the sand, to put it nicely, and still believe bad things don't happen here.
The Patel's are NOT Muslim. They own several hotels in the area and give back to our community more than you know. They raised very productive and respectful children.
It is not their job to do SPD or Wicomico sheriff Dept responsibilities. They offer rooms for rent and don't discriminate. It's the animals that forced these young women to do these acts fault. Not the caretakers.
Pakistanis and foreigners run these slum hotels..they are filthy filled with criminals and they don't care..police just have to wait outside to catch someone..the staff knew and didn't care.
