Punkin Chunkin returning in 2017, but without The Science Channel

BRIDGEVILLE – Punkin Chunkin will return to its most recent staging venue in rural Bridgeville in early November, but without The Science Channel.

World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association in a press release Saturday announced the homegrown Sussex County event is returning Nov. 3-5 to the Wheatley Farm property east of Bridgeville.

Saturday’s announcement ends months of speculation about Punkin Chunkin’s future. The event returned last year following a two-year hiatus and was marred by tragedy.

I gave up on that event years ago. The on again off again ruined it for me.

When my grandkids get a little older, I will take them to one of these events if it still exists. It's actually educational and requires a lot of engineering capabilities whether you have a degree or not. The pumpkins simply make it more of a family event that kids can relate to.

I hope it lives on forever.
