Tim Chaney, (one of the original "Dirty Dozen") Passed Away

As I sit here right now writing this post I am truly in shock, I had no idea my old friend Tim passed away last Saturday. 58 years old is just too young. Rest In Peace my old Friend.

John Timothy Chaney, 58 of Salisbury, died Saturday, September 4, 2016 at his home.

Born in Baltimore he was the son of the late, John and Frances Dempsey Chaney. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Norman H. Whiteley.

Tim was a graduate of Wicomico Senior High School. He was a cook for numerous locations in the area. He was an avid fan of the Grateful Dead and shared a birthday with Jerry Garcia, who was his favorite. He enjoyed playing his guitar, searching for arrowheads and other historical pieces. His dogs were his children, who he loved very much.

He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Jensen of Georgetown; sister-in-law, Nanci Whiteley of Salisbury; aunt, Emma Chaney of Arbutus, MD; 7 nieces and nephews and numerous, cousins, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, which will be held in the Georgetown Presbyterian Church and the service will be officiated by Rev. Michael Williams.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army in Salisbury.
Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, P.A., 501 Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804.

As one of the "Dirty Dozen", I have met Tim many times over the years. Always he had a warm smile and firm friendly handshake. I too would call him My Friend.

We'll miss Tim. He was one of those people who consistently put others' needs before his own, and truly cared about everyone around him. RIP, friend.

Do you guys remember what happened in the first picture I put up. Lynn Cathcart, "PUT YOUR HAND DOWN", in that Momma's Family southern accent, of course. Those were the days! Barrie Tilghman braless on television. No fly zone over the Waste Water Treatment Plant. Pipestem annexation at Sassafras Meadows. $14,000,000.00 Fire Palace. $140,000,000.00 Waste Water Treatment Plant upgrade with a $1,000,000.00 liability clause. Chief Webster, I never saw anything, while he yanked the Mayor's Daughter off Rachel Polk. There are no gangs in Salisbury. Crime is down, yet Salisbury was the 4th most dangerous city in America, per capita. I could go on and on... Know this my old friend, NONE of these people still have jobs in the City. You done good!

Tim fought daily for Salisbury and won every battle in some way or another. Godspeed, sir! You did well over and above!

Tim you will certainly be missed. Tim was a regular at many of the neighborhood meetings throughout the city of Salisbury. He was a city council candidate for a district that was cut out for a black person to win even though he lived in a white area. Nothing like reverse racism. Tim was always commenting on my Facebook page and I didn't realize I hadn't heard from him in a while until I read this. There wasn't a bad bone in Tim's body and all he wanted was to live a good life in a good city.

Tim you've done your duty, we'll take it from here. R.I.P. my friend.

Tim was the treasurer of the Presidents Neighborhood Assoc. He helped us with monthly meetings @ St. Andrews Church, he did yard cleanups for the elderly in our area, he cooked at our neighborhood block partys, he & I shopped for food for the many events together, and we as a group stood shoulder to shoulder to do what we could to improve our neighborhood. I am sure each and everyone one of us in this area remember and will always think of him and the support he gave. God Bless Tim and his family.

I used to follow Tim's blog and watch the music videos he posted. Later I met Tim and we went to several small music venues like the Globe in Berlin or the Avalon in Easton. We had dinner a couple of times also. I got to meet a few of Tim's friends too, Lenny Purnell and Ridgely Griffith to name a couple. If people are judged by the company they keep, then Tim was one of the best. After he quit blogging I sadly lost touch with him. He was straight up and a very sincere guy. I'll miss him and so will a lot of other good folks.
