Statement from Governor Larry Hogan on Suspension of the Artificial Island Energy Project

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan today issued the following statement in response to the announcement by utility company PJM to suspend further action on the Artificial Island power line project. In June, Governor Hogan joined Delaware Governor Jack Markell to call attention to the unfair burden PJM's proposal would have placed on Delmarva residents, and to urge the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to reverse that proposal.

“Last month, I stood with Governor Markell to announce our united and strong opposition to a proposal that would have unfairly burdened Delmarva ratepayers with millions of dollars in fees for power they did not use and from which they did not benefit. It is clear that our concerns have been taken seriously and we are extremely pleased that PJM has taken action to temporarily halt the project for further and much-needed analysis.

“From day one, our administration has focused on running government more efficiently and keeping costs low for taxpayers. We look forward to the results of the review and remain committed to fighting for an equitable and permanent resolution on behalf of Marylanders and all residents of Delmarva.”
