Attend the Vigil for Oliver the Cat in Worcester County, Maryland

Attend the Vigil for Oliver the Cat in Worcester County, Maryland
Dear Cat Advocate,
http://news.alleycat.org/2016/07/11/speak-out-save-oliver-the-cat-in-worcester-maryland/We are sorry to inform you that Worcester County Animal Control has killed Oliver the cat. Alley Cat Allies will be holding a peaceful vigil in Oliver’s memory on Thursday, July 14. Please join us to honor Oliver and stand against Worcester County Animal Control’s cruel decision.
Worcester County Animal Control has a horrible record. In 2015, they killed more than 86 percent of all cats they took in. Sadly, Oliver is now another victim.
We can’t let Oliver’s death be in vain. We have to come together to make change and save cats in Worcester County. Please come out to the vigil and help us send a message that the community cares about cats and wants to see them protected, not killed.
Attend the vigil for Oliver:
WHEN:Thursday, July 14, 2016, 6:30 p.m.
WHERE:Worcester County Court Report
1 W Market Street
Snow Hill, MD, 21863

Sincerely,

Becky Robinson

Note they also use a gas chamber to euthanize animals

You are misinformed and need to get a life. At least they didn't ignore the puppy mill in Eden like Wicomico County Humane Society.

wish they would come get these five out of my neighborhood. I am tired of these cats climbing on my vehicles and smelling them in my roses. The owners will not keep them home and just lets them roam. Wicomico will do nothing and states I can do nothing. We will see shortly.

10:31 - it's CO .
Wicomico is no better - perhaps WORSE - cats are D.O.A.
Cat's lives matter !

The person who took the time to write these should ashamed! Why didn't you adopt it?

Anonymous said...

The cat wasn't up for adoption.

You should have taken the time to read what happened. He was trapped NEAR a known rabid cat but was showing no signs of infection. This cat had PLENTY of offers from experienced rescues to quarantine him and tons of offers from locals to adopt him. He was part of a maintained TNR colony; his ear was tipped for identification and the caretaker had a current rabies certificate but AC euthanized him anyway.

I like kitties, too, but they're everywhere and they MUST be controlled.
The Shore is overrun with feral cats.

I am disgusted by most of the uninformed comments. I only donate to grass root groups anymore.

County ASPCA's only kill and this is just a prime example of it. They collect money, adopt 10% and kill 90%

This was needless, he was vaccinated and posed no risk to anyone. He could have been quarantined.

I find that most county run organizations have a bunch of clueless control freaks running them that have no experience, talent, intelligence or customer service skills.

And to compare this to abortion is just plain ignorant.

12:01 so you want to support more welfare babies? You must be a Hillary fan too!

I am sorry that Oliver was put down, but the TNR program is not ethical and it is misguided. Unless the feral cats that are trapped and neuter are placed in a fenced sanctuary (most can not be socialized and adopted), then it is unethical to release them back in the natural world to reek havoc on rest of God's creatures. The advocates of TNR are making the moral choice that feral cats' lives have more value than the wild birds and small animals that become their victims. Shame on them.

2:55 What a bunch of crap. Ever heard of the circle of life? You remove a predator from an area and the prey population explodes. TNR colonies CAN NOT REPRODUCE! In 99% of cases, they do not roam either (if altered). They also don't like outsiders around their territory. If you remove an established colony others will come and you now have to start from scratch. These animals are fed daily and vaccinated, all provided by a caretaker, usually out of their own pockets. Stop eating the crap that PETA feeds you.

12:01 you need to look at the costs of feeding, housing, and educating these freeloaders! Aborting them is so much better, and cheaper!

More free Spay and Nutter clinics would help with the animal's and the welfare rats!

Talk about a bunch of crap, your group wants to protest the Humane Society killing animals but you guys are fine with killing everything else if it is not a cat. I suggest you take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself how you can justify killing another living animal via your feral cat assassins, and still think you are doing something good.

4:29 I protest the HS killing adoptable or rehabilitable animals. I protest puppy mills and irresponsible owners, breeders and rescues, dog and cock fighters and fight for justice for those let down by humans because WE domesticated them. I can look in the mirror with a clear conscience because I'm not the one who killed them. I'm also not the one advocating killing them for doing what is inherent to them....hunting for food. I also maintain a colony on my property so I know what I'm talking about. They are chipped, altered, vetted and tipped. I work with dogs every day. So, yes, I am doing something good that I feel good about. I don't advocate or support the killing of ANY domesticated animal unless medical issues or temperament issues are documented by a professional. Assassins....now that's funny. And shows your level of disdain for a "living creature" that doesn't suit your agenda.

I am missing something.....vigil for a cat....if the cat was that important why didn't one of the group members go adopt it???? GIVE ME A BREAK....People and Police Officers getting killed and SOMBODY wants this for a cat? Come on people.

See 1:06.

The cat was not tame but was fixed and had its rabies vaccination. It could have been quarantined for 10 days to see if it had rabies. This is just another reason why the population of animals is out of control. People do NOT want to take a stray cat or kitten to these shelter for fear they will be killed.
