The request was specifically for the North Walmart Store. I responded back to them telling them that unless they start advertising with us, we will NOT publish their release.
When you use common sense, clearly Walmart has come to learn that our audience is far greater then anyone else, or they wouldn't have sent the request. I explained that even as large as the company is, our ads are only $100.00 a month and with that ad we'd be more then happy to market their promotions. There's been no reply. I also shared our traffic to date and if that doesn't convince them that advertising with us would be an incredible move, I don't know what to say beyond those numbers.
Times have been tough for all of the small businesses over the past several years and on behalf of our advertisers we will not participate with these free promotion requests.
That being said, we truly enjoy promoting free non profit events. BBQ's, Yard Sales, Fundraisers, Church events, Lost and found animals, all for free.
I think Walmart can pony up $100.00 a month, wouldn't you agree?

Well be careful Joe, They are the biggest chain and they work with the govt step by step so, they just might get mad and come after you...

I'm sure it costs Wal*Mart a chunk of change to mass produce their brochures that come with papers in the eastern shore area. Once they produce their brochures they must be shipped throughout the country; not a cheap venture. I can't believe the papers don't charge to include the brochures in with their weekly paper.
I'm thinking $100/month would be a steal for them.
Walmart is nothing but a freak show. The only reason do go there is to be entertained watching all the losers.
Get a year up front. They will advertise for a month then not pay.

You've had this set fee for advertising on your site for what, four or five years or more? And the price has been $100 per month the whole time, no increases over the years, right? From the reports of the advertisers I've talked with, this is a great bargain, way, way better than newspaper, radio, local ad magazines and TV.
So who can complain?
I have come to believe that the Walton family only cares about the extreme money that they make off the backs of their employees and customers. This past Sunday we went to Walmart South to purchase one item and the express lanes were closed. We had to wait thru two loaded carts to pay for our one item. Didn't use the automated system because half the time there are issues with it. You can shop cheaper elsewhere if you pay attention to sales.
11:38, Really? A multi billion dollar corporation comes to ME and wants something for free. You have NOT seen anything out there on WBOC, WMDT or the Daily Times about this promotion. Why, because they, (Walmart) know their audience is useless any more.
Do you people have any idea how great a response our advertisers get with Salisbury News. For YEARS the County advertised job positions in the Daily Times and guess what, NOTHING! Now, they have so many applications they actually have a CHOICE on who to hire and not settle for the scraps that walked in.
Nevertheless, open your eyes for once people. NO ONE published crime on the Shore unless it was a murder. It was SBYNews that created the Crime Solvers Website and we were the only ones to put out most wanted and daily crime activity. Now look at the daily news elsewhere and what are they doing, publishing crime because we forced them to.
"Pets on the Plaza", lost and found pets and pets available from the Humane Society, where do you think that came from.

Oh, by the way. Just call each of these organizations and ask them what they'd charge for an ad. Let me assure you it won't be anywhere near what we charge, unless you're buried in a portion of their website that only comes up once every four times you happen to visit that page. Totally useless.
Then ask them what they do with the advertising money they raise. They do crap like make donations to Bless our Children WITH YOUR DONATIONS. While it's fantastic the have a platform to raise the kind of money they do, IT'S NOT THEIR MONEY.
So NO, Walmart cannot ask me to promote programs they make money on, period and shame on them for doing so.
WalMart has their teeth in the Public and has brained washed them to believe they are the lowest, Lot of "BS" and poor inventory. They change inventory / or remove the items if they find it sells out. Everybody matches others low price prices. Why would WalMart have to match if they advertise nobody can beat their prices. They are just another greedy business. They run everybody out of business then raise their prices. Been shopping back at Giant for 3 years because their prices with their card is lower than WalMart.

Walmart is going to self checkouts on both ends of the store to eliminate cashiers. They are eliminating office personal. Yet they want you to advertise for them for free. Maybe they could eliminate a Co. Mgr. salary to pay for it since they have one manager, three co managers, and probably five assistants. Walmart is the worst thing that has ever happened to the american economy.
