May saw gun background checks hit a monthly record for the 13th month in a row, according to statistics reported by the FBI.
According to the FBI, the agency completed 1.87 million checks using the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in May 2016, about 300,000 more than May of last year, which was a record for May at the time.
The numbers are down over the past several months, as requests for background checks typically fall during the summer months, The Washington Free Beacon notes. The all-time record month was last December when 3.31 million requests were made.

Gov hogam where are my gun rights?
It's illegal to posses a firearm as a felon. So. They check. It's that simple.
Felons can do whatever they want and we don't stop them from getting guns through checks.
yup like felons do anything legaly but pvt law abiding citizens go through the ringer i say better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 so bring it on thugs.
Like felons care about laws?
Trying to figure out the reasoning for why there's a drop in the background checks over the summer. I suppose it's because of the number of people on the move that have already taken care of their firearm needs before the summer. Or maybe they don't have money to buy guns during the summer with the kids out of school, travel, etc. Just seems like an odd statistic.
