Pet Owners Fighting for 'Paw-Ternity' Time off

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — There’s still plenty of discussion about making sure parents get maternity leave and paternity leave, and whether or not American business standards are generous enough compared to other countries.

Now, the question has popped up over what’s getting called “paw-ternity” time. A number of businesses in the United Kingdom have now started offering employees the option to take time off for new pets.

The time would be used to train, comfort and establish their pet’s place in their homes.

I've had pets of all kinds for 65 years. I love animals and quit hunting nearly 30 years ago because I enjoyed watching them more than shooting them. BUT, this is the dumbest, most stupid idea I've ever heard of....we abuse veterans, we starve the homeless, and now we want "paw-ternity" time. Just how foolish and selfish have we become????

My dogs sleep outside all year. They have doghouses with straw insulation and door flaps to keep the wind out. They will break through ice and swim get to dead bird. Yuppie neighbors bought a "farmette" down the road from us and harass my wife and children about how we treat our pets. They have lil fluffy yap yap dogs. My dogs are working animals, they retrieve dead birds after we shoot them. I told them to watch one of those shows on cable about Alaska. Those sled dogs live outside in much colder weather and are fed fish.

This crap gets more nauseating by the day - how stupid. Stay home because you have a new pet? Although I do remember years ago, someone called out sick for the day because their dog had puppies and they just couldn't leave. NO, NO, NO, you don't use sick leave for the dog having puppies - DUH!!!!
