Local DUI Conviction Rate Tops In Md.

SNOW HILL — For the second time in three years, the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office has achieved the highest conviction rate for driving under the influence cases in the state of Maryland in 2014.

The data is collected and compiled by the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Association each year. The association tracks the overall success rate on drunk-driving cases for each jurisdiction and the data for 2014 was released earlier this year. Once the data was analyzed, the association determined Worcester County had the highest conviction rate in drunk -driving cases among all of the jurisdictions in Maryland. Worcester also earned the distinction in 2012.

According to the Maryland State’s Attorney’s Association, of the 963 impaired driving cases that came to court in Worcester in 2014, 871 had positive outcomes, although the criteria for a positive outcome was not defined.

I'm sure Ocean City has a lot to do with that.

Not positive for the accused!

A friend of mine works in Ocean City, we were talking about DUI's and she stated that the general attitude there was that they were a part of life. Not a big deal to most people she knows at all. Shocking really

Just read the article. Wicomico was second in the State. Good job.

This all sounds good, but these drunks will keep repeating their crimes without a mandatory jail sentences not served on weekends! It should be 30 to 90 days behind bars for 1st. offense no exception! These people are killers just looking for a victim.

With a center of economy that heavily relies on reaping the profits from alcohol sales, DUI is a fact of life for Worcester County.

LEaving OC at nights is problematic said...

I work in Ocean City and at nights when I come home...

(I DO NOT DRINK NOR CARE TOO).

The Berlin Barracks State Police will drive up on your car very fast, swerve around you and stare at you and drop back behind you again.

Talk about harassment!

I wonder how many convicted were harassed first?

I've had them do that and I wait a few minutes then touch the white line a few times to get them to stop me knowing I have not been drinking. They get awfully upset when they figure out they can't get you for DUI. It's pretty funny.

I like it. :)

Always thought the punishment for DUI offenders was too soft, these people are driving around a 2000 pound killing machine, just waiting to kill a innocent person.
Just imagine if a guy was walking around firing a rifle into the air, just as dangerous, and reckless, but who gets a harsher jail term?

I think that is BS. My family was involved in a motor vehicle accident in summer 2014. We were struck by a drunk driver! Worcester County States Attorney failed my family. My mother had life threatening injuries and had to have 2 major surgeries, was in Healthsouth for 3 months and will never have same quality of life! Still has another surgery ahead of her while that bastard got off with a $250 fine because his aunt is a lawyer in Worcester County and know how to play the system!!

It started out as a good cause, getting the obviously drunk drivers off the highways. But like everything else, they went to far. They keep lowering the B.A.C., harassing people with roadblocks, giving cops promotions for DUI convictions, making a money making scheme out of DUI enforcement, creating a whole niche of DUI lawyers, etc.
