A Viewer Writes: Today's accident in Bishopville

As you know there were 2 fatalities in this accident. Wboc posted the picture on there Facebook before family was notified. The wife of one of the victims seen this as well as commented that she could not reach her husband. Unfortunately it was her husband who was killed. I could never imagine learning of my significant others death this way. I think it was just plain ignorant and heartless. I'm writing you be at they need to be brought out on this and your the only man for the job. All I can think about is that poor woman scrolling through her news feed and seeing the horrible picture of her husbands work truck. Please call these heartless, cold reporter wannabes out. Thanks

WBOC did the same thing when my niece drowned, then drove by and posted pictures of the house and address so GAWKERS could come by and they did for days. They announced it on the news before that child's sisters were even told. Shameful practices then and now.

Reporting of the details of such events should be cleared by the police agency in charge before they are released to the public. This is miserable and cruel.

I really didn't think that WBOC did ANY investigative reporting. When did that start?

So you are saying that your husband has the only white work truck in the world?

There was not any lettering on the truck to identify it.

It's just one of the many prices of today's connected world. But still shameful.

Hours after the accident a man was given a ride by a passing motorist. When asked where he was going the passenger replied "Georgetown".The 2 talked for a while without mentioning the accident that had taken place earlier.App 10 miles later the driver looked at something to the left of his car. When he looked back his passenger was gone. The driver insisted that he had not stopped the car to let the man out.

People whine about everything. The picture of the accident was posted by way more than WBOC, but that doesn't fit your narrative of bashing and hate.

6:16 Cool story bro. You could at least give credit to the original writer.

I don't think how you find out your husband died will change the reaction of learning the news.

6:16 am, is this story real?

If they didn't over it, then there would be whiners about that...you just can't please all the people all the time...but, I am so sorry for the loss of loved ones. May they rest in peace.

You can't avoid things like this. If you think it would bother you then your best bet is to stay off line and keep the TV and radio off. Isolate yourself. It's the price paid for 24/7 news and social media doesn't help.
I followed the whole thing on FB. The wife didn't say it was her husband only that she thinks it's her husband so to say she found out this way is a bit disingenuous.

Should the media not have reported on the World Trade Centers until relatives of the victims were notified? Or airplane crashes or any other items of interest that are tragic until victims families are notified? Shouldn't these victims families and loved ones been afforded the respect of waiting until each and every single family member had been officially notified before the media reported on it? Did anyone while watching the horrific events of 911 say then "this shouldn't be on TV until the families are all notified"? I doubt it. It's easy to pass judgement but the truth is we are all guilty.

Maggie was my girlfriend and the love of my life and I was told by my friend who happened to drive by. He wasn't sure it was her so he took my keys first then told me. I made him drive me there and the entire block was shut off. I jumped out and went anyway until I could see the van. Once I saw it I knew it was her. Trust me when I say it doesn't matter how your world was ripped away from you. It only matters that it was. I wanted to hit a female cop when I found out cause she was yelling at me for being inside the block no one was supposed to be in. She was just doing her job. I'm reading this stuff now one year later because I think I'm strong enough and I want to know what happened exactly.
