SALISBURY’S MAIN STREET DRAWBRIDGE TO BE TEMPORARILY CLOSED

Repairs/Maintenance Require Overnight Closures Beginning February 1

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will temporarily close the MD 991 (West Main Street) Drawbridge over Wicomico River in Salisbury for maintenance and repairs beginning Monday, February 1. The overnight work will take approximately two weeks, weather permitting. Crews will work between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., Monday through Friday - during these times the bridge will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Crews will post detour signs.

The overnight closures are necessary for Covington Machine and Welding of Annapolis to perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs including the replacement of several bearings. Marine traffic should not be affected. Estimated cost for this work is $30,000.

I fail to see why we need this bridge or the maintenance. Close it forever and it will be no loss.

This bridge has outlived its purpose.
