We're already getting questions about school on Friday, Jan. 22: Will our schools be closed tomorrow due to the predicted snowstorm? Does the Governor's declaration of a state of emergency starting at 7 a.m. Friday mean schools have to be closed? When will we make a decision?
FYI, a state of emergency does not require school systems to close. It places state and local government on a heightened readiness and awareness due to potentially severe weather. During any state of emergency schools may close in some parts of Maryland, but not in others, depending on conditions.
Wicomico Schools is scheduled to have a full day of school on Friday, Jan. 22. We will continue to monitor forecasts and confer with law enforcement and other local agencies about the predicted storm. No decision regarding a change of school status for Friday is likely to be made tonight, with the winter storm still developing. With any situation involving a school delay or closing, or goal is to make the decision no later than 5 a.m., and get the word to school families and staff by 5:30 a.m.
Any school status change would be made through the usual channels: SchoolMessenger calls/emails, govDelivery emails/texts, posts on WCPS social media and website, and announcements in local media. Stay warm, and stay tuned!

Thank you for clarifying. Guess people think that if we are in a state of emergency schools must be closed. Glad you are making a rushed decision based on "predictions".
Schools will be open Friday the snow ain't coming until 5 pm.
Sorry. In my original post, I meant to say "glad you aren't making a rushed decision." I apologize for the error.
Schools should be closed just as a precaution and maybe no bomb threats too ease parents
